Storm - Intense
« on: October 30, 2017, 12:00:43 PM »
Looking to overall the bag starting with the Storm Intense as my heavy oil ball.  Prefer Storm/Roto Grip but open to suggestions.  Currently down to two balls - Hammer Pearl Scandal and RG Hectic.   Please help fillout the lineup.

Heavy -  Storm Intense
Medium -  ??????
Med/Dry -  Thinking Match Up  - Pearl ? or Hybrid ?  or Hustle Ink ?

Changes to take place over next 30 days, so currently available and coming soon (RG's ) suggestions are all welcome.  Like having choice of pearl and solid options in the bag.

The Intense would not slot as an oiler due to the cover in my book. Either the Sure Lock or No Rules Exist would cover those spots for assym cores out of Utah. For symmetrical cores you would consider the Phaze II or Dare Devil Trick to be the more likely candidates.

How many balls total? You bowl league only or also tournaments? How would you say you throw, speed dom, rev dom, matched?

Keeping the Scandal Pearl?
Do keep the Hectic unless it's really beat up.

Heavy- Intense
Med- Code Series
Med/Low- Hustle Ink
Low- keep the Hectic and only carry it in the tournament bag

Code series which includes the Code Red, which would handle more oil than the Intense...

You sure about that? R3S is stronger than R2S. From what we've seen the Intense rolls pretty strongly too, it's not really a skid-flip reaction. I'd use the Intense on heavier conditions before either of the Code balls.

With that added diff of Rad4 and R2S Hybrid, I would reach for the Code Red for heavy first for a more controlled reaction. I see the Intense being more over/under of the 2 balls, but by no means skating across the lane either. I guess it's a coin flip and wouldn't quite label any of them an oiler. I had the Code Red, but I've only watched others throw the Intense so a bit of speculation on my end.

I'm a little weary on the Intense. To me, it seems more like the Lucid. It likes to be closer to the track and be forward rolling down the lane. Not bad by any means, but not something I can go left to right with. I would have it at 1 or 2000 and use it on the fresh and then go to a Code Red with less surface to go a little more left.

I used my intense last night one game.  They burn up quick on Monday night's.  Then went to the code red.  Tamer reaction for me.  I don't have much hand and the intense really works nicely for me.  Curious to use it on my wed  league.  Seems like there is a little bit more oil that night.  Plus they don't burn up as quick.

I disagree with this. The Intense is really angular and seems best throwing away from the pocket. The only way it works going straighter is having a huge wall. I've used it on the 2016 Rome pattern (45ft) and it came hard off the end of that pattern. On the house shot, if I get it too straight, I'm paying the price. This ball needs oil to push it down the lane, yet still needs room to hook back to the pocket. And don't get slow with this ball - you will pay.

I used it saturday at box on the house shot and then sunday on Rome. After seeing the reaction, I took it down to 3000 dull. It's much smoother now, but still turns the corner hard. Used it pretty much all night in my monday mixed league. Shot over 700 but still paid a few times through the nose. 3-4 splits on the night.

In my opinion, the Code Red is much smoother than the Intense. It also handles less oil. I have them both drilled with pretty angular layouts. The Code Red was still fairly smooth at box finish. The Intense, most definitely, was not. Both are at 3000 now. Intense is still far more angular off the spot. Even the Code Black - which I took to 4000 + Xtra Shine - is less angular.

I have not had a chance to compare it to my Sure Lock yet. I expect the Sure Lock to handle more oil, but even though it still retains energy fairly well, I don't think it is as angular as the Intense. The Intense is definitely filling a spot in the heavy oil category.

BTM has its review up for the Intense and for Radical Katana as well.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.

R3S is a lot stronger than R2S, the Intense is about an arrow stronger for me than the Code Red.  The Intense just digs and keeps digging.
