Storm Ride wow
« on: April 24, 2015, 07:01:30 PM »
So I got my Ride today in time to bowl our monthly tournament tomorrow. I only got to throw it a few times before I had to work. I told my PSO to lay it out and he went with 55 x 2 7/8 x 50 and put a hole on my PAP

I can honestly say the core/cover combo is going to be perfect for our house shot. Ball retains a lot of energy and is really smooth.

I love my Rocket, and can't wait to add the Ride for a killer 1-2 punch!

(Holy weight hole batman! LOL)

Do you think this ball would work well on drier conditions?

I tried a 3 3/8 pin, cg on my pap on a Hysteria last fall. My pap is 5x1 up and the hole went on my pap/cg. I had to use a 1 1/4, 4 inches deep. Ball rolled extremely well on flat and short.  I'd be interested to see how this ball rolls for you on tournament patterns.

Well I threw the Ride today in our tournament. It's just our house shot that got used and I really liked the reaction I got.

If it wasn't for some bad luck carrying pins, I probably would have won with it. But bowling can sometimes be cruel lol

Is The Ride similar to the Lights Out and Punch Out?

I'd definitely say Storm got it right in saying the Ride would fit between the Breezes and the Lights Out series.

There are a couple guys throwing the Punch Out and the Ride definitely gave me a smoother look compared to what they had

Picked this ball up last night, going to try it out in league tonight. I think it will be perfect for the dryer lanes at my home alley. We'll see.

I have a 14# Ride that I won, and going to see if I can switch it out for a 15#.  I want something below my LightsOut but above the SuperNatural.  I think the Ride would squeeze right in there.

I think all the positive reviews on the Ride have defined it perfectly.  Very rolly for a pearl, and allows me to play much more direct than with other stuff in my bag.  Ride is the first ball I have thrown in ages that lets me take advantage of the hold area on a house shot the way we did years ago with tamer equipment.  I can almost line up off my Blue Hammer with the Ride, but the core shell matchup brings out the resin attributes.  I shot 1498 for 6 with it in last weekend on a 10 to 10 wall in a tournament.  Struggled a bit in team event, but ended up having a good look playing the track at about 12 board in that event.

I also think the Ride will be an option on shorter tournament patterns where I normally cant go with a pearl.

I have nothing but good things to say about mine. Im pretty matched revs to ball speed,  except for the past couple months my ball speed is down 1/2-1 mph. I go through these periods every year and idk why.

But the Ride allows me to stay in my comfort zone longer and the ball has no problem driving through the pins.

I shot 258 266 with it in a stepladder finals for our house ToC and ended up taking 2nd because I lost to 276. The Ride is just so predictable for me that I threw 11 out of 12 the championship and was confused when it jumped on me in the 3rd frame to leave the 3-4-6-7.

For me it's easy to start with the Ride on our house shot and move inside with a stronger ball when the lanes transition

Havent tried it in yet, but I think the Ride may work well for me when I move in on broken down shot.  Being able to get to the break point without having to go too much out and back is a huge carry advantage for us lower rev guys.  If it struggles, my Marvel Pearl should take up the slack.

In the ongoing war to develop the biggest hook in a box monsters, the manufacturers got away from core shell matchups that lend themselves to tournament patterns and guys using more end over end roll.  Low diff IQ Tour solid was a break through.  Now the Ride, even though it is a totally different core, gives me what I was hoping for in the Gold pearl IQ.

10-15 years ago Brunswick had the best tourney equipment for me with their tall rolly cores.  Now I am seeing other manufacturers, particularly Storm, come up with really good tournament stuff.  Keep making the hook monsters for the Tuesday night commercial league guys, but you are really on to something with core shell matchups like we see in the Ride, and IQ tour.
