This mid-RG and mid-differential core boasts a tighter spin radius for quick revving mid-lane and enhanced entry angle to the pocket. Reactor series coverstock adds the perfect complement to the Tropical Heat. This performance proven coverstock continues to be a staple in the Storm line by delivering the ideal blend of friction and power. Don’t be left out in the freezing cold – Turn up the Heat!

Simply put, this ball is a fantastic house shot benchmark.  This is not the first time we've seen the Turbine core nor the Reactor Hybrid cover.  The other Tropical Heat Hybrid comes in the traditional Storm finish of 1500-grit polish.  However, they decided to finish this one in 4000 grit abralon to play a bit more like the solid version which was discontinued.
What you get with this core is a good length, with a consistent breakpoint and strong motion on the backend.  The motion tends to be concentrated towards the latter part of the overall ball reaction so it stores good energy for the pins.  This ball and core works amazingly well on your typical house shots.  I've had a Furious for years which is my benchmark on medium/medium light conditions.  I have that ball finished at 4000 plus light polish.  Since the Tropical Heat Hybrid actually plays more like a 2000 abralon when new, it likes medium or medium/heavy more.  It will not have enough length for medium-light conditions.  However, rest assured the cover can easily be adjusted.

The ball was tested on Kegel Main Street (41 ft) THS and 2012 USBC Championship pattern (39 ft).  It worked very well on the THS and above average on the USBC pattern.

Really strong entry angle.

The new Tropical Heat Hybrid, purple/black has great shelf appeal with its 4000 grit purple and black Reactor hybrid cover stock.  At a quick glance, it resembles a dull Victory road Pearl. The Tropical Heat hybrid has the same Turbine core found in the previously released Tropical Heat balls. I drilled the hybrid pin 1”over ring, with the cg located about 2” from my PAP (5 ¾ x2x1 ½). I placed a rather large hole on my PAP. I drilled this Heat to compliment my red and blue pearl Heat. They share the same pin position, but the difference being the pearl has no extra weight hole with the cg being placed on my grip line. I like to use the pearl when I get in, and need to cover some boards on medium length conditions like the Chameleon. I drilled the Heat hybrid to use when there is more oil on the lane, and I need a dull cover to change direction, and roll while still getting through the heads. So far, this Heat Hybrid has not disappointed me.

This Hybrid Heat is the first Tropical Heat to be released with a dulled cover. At only 4000 abralon, it does yield a nice bite in the backend of the lane, without slowing down too fast and reading the front of the lane. For a sanded cover ball, it has plenty of strength down lane. Although the hybrid Heat changes direction quite well, it still isn’t as snappy as the other polished Heats that were its predecessors.

The hybrid will be a good ball for bowlers not wanting the “skid-snap” of the pearl Tropical Heats or the polished silver and black Hybrid, but still desiring an angular motion in the backend of the lane with a little more overall hook potential. If you are looking for a good medium to medium light oil ball that will allow you to chase the pattern in as they dry up, then the Tropical Heat hybrid purple and black will be a great ball with a great price!

Love this ball, very great for many conditions. There are so many ways to drill this ball and create and angle that is perfect for anybody of any condition.  The best part about the ball, ITS CHEAP. I would highly recommend this ball be in everyone's arsenal.

Storm Tropical Heat Purple Black Ball Review
by Storm Staffer Casey Murphy

Right Handed
Rev Rate:  375-400 Rpm
Ball Speed:  16 mph
PAP:  4 5/8 straight across

Location:  Sunshine Lanes
Lane Pattern:  Typical House Shot
Layout:  80, 5 ½, 45

I threw this ball on a typical house pattern and saw a great blend of length and recovery which is the classic trademark of a Storm hybrid coverstock.  I was able to send the ball to the dry boards and have a controlled but very angular recovery.  I also kept the ball tight in the oil and there was plenty of traction in the 4000 grit finish for the ball to pick up and flush the pocket.

The Tropical Heat Purple Black is another great offering from Storm in their dependable Tropical line.  This ball will be best used on a medium to lighter volume of oil.  Bowler’s looking to avoid early hook on drier conditions should definitely have this ball in the bag.

Right-handed tweener
Ball speed - 14-16 mph
Drilled with ring finger just left and slightly lower than pin (close to layout 1 and layout 4 on drilling chart)

I bought this ball to fit in under my Roto Grip Nomad and above my AMF Clutch Pearl.  It is just the right ball for our league's THS.  This ball makes a great move to the pocket off the break point.  Our house went to a lighter oil last season and this is the best ball I have found that matches up with what they are putting down.

Likes: move off break point, power into pins, doesn't overreact on dry boards
Dislikes: none
