900 Global Tactical OPS video and written review
« on: July 03, 2018, 11:11:11 PM »

We tried this ball in our typical house shot and the first thing we noticed is how strong it is down the lane.

I started playing around 10 to 6 or 7 as my breakpoint and the Tactical OPS worked great. The ball is really, really clean (even with the Break asymmetric core) the Tactical OPS saves most of its energy for the last part of the lane.

When I missed outside my target, the ball still had enough energy to make it back to the pocket. When I missed inside my mark, the Tactical OPS skids too far if it doesn't see enough friction to make its move. For me, the S72 Pearl coverstock is too clean with the out of the box surface (1500 grit polished) so I took a used 3000 Abralon pad and the Tactical OPS came alive. It had more traction in the oil and almost the same strong and angular reaction when I missed outside.

The ball is really clean through the front part of the lane and it is really angular. In terms of angularity, I think is a tad earlier and smoother than the Honey Badger, but it is more angular than the Eon. In terms of strength, I think it is a great complement to the Covert OPS. They have similar motion, but with the extra length, the Tactical OPS is a better ball when you have to move in and play steeper angles.

Overall I feel this is a great addition to the OPS series. You can't go wrong with a ball that has the Break asymmetric core. If you are a fan of the OPS series, you are going to love this ball. Plus, for the price point, you will get more bang for your buck.

Thank you for watching!

Which are you looking at?

I missed out on the Covert, so 2 of these are going in the bag.

TBH doom, several in the line throughout.  Sometimes you just need a change of something different
Example, everybody raves about the honey badger (especially you doom).  But the IQ pearl has been so wonderful for me, it's hard to pull the trigger on, but very tempting.

If I had to start with one, what would you recommend?  Covert ops, Badger, etc?

That's hard for me. I love me any Ops. IMO, I wouldn't go without an Ops at 2000. Other than that, (and I haven't put holes in mine yet) start with a Badger with your favorite symmetrical layout and a 4000 pad to break the surface. Good ball to start with until you need to step in and really wheel it, and then the HB comes out to play.

Thanks for the insite;  I'll keep that in mind if I need to replace one of my gems in my bag. So hard to not pull the trigger, but I am trying to no ball whore anymore.  ;D

We'll see what happens.

In my opinion if you are going to try 900 Global, I would go with the Badger and the Honey Badger if you mostly bowl on THS. Great combo!

If you need a 3 ball arsenal, then I would add the Continuum, great piece and more versatile than I thought. Works great on heavier volumes and it is algo a good piece on most medium oil patterns.

As Doom said, you canít go wrong with any OPS too. Plenty of options!

Agree with the Continuum on the top, but just a note, that ball is going to be very forward off the end of the pattern. With such a high intermediate diff and strong cover, it will be good to use in the puddle.

Can't wait for this ball. Looks like a good ball down from the Hammer Rip'd that I already have. Definitely getting this one and at least one of the After Dark balls. Just trying to determine how each one of them would compare to the Monster Vamp. Definitely don't need any of the high end balls, but still might grab one.

Wonder if the Continuum will roll like the Bank's of old with the SRC cores.

I don't know about that, bro. The SRC is plenty strong, but was more continuous than I see this ball being, just due to the really high intermediate diff.

I will have this bad boy this weekend. Can't wait. Despite all the balls I have, this should fill a hole in the line up.

Here's a question. I've watched a bunch of videos now, but just how different is this ball to the Eon? This has the stronger core, but I'm guessing the Eon has the stronger cover. Both meant to be angular on medium to heavy oil. Are they different enough to get both? Not that that has stopped me from buying a ball before. I'll probably still get it. Maybe go with a different layout and surface if they are pretty similar out of the box.

Eon is going to be a bit stronger when it comes to actual oil handling capability, and will not be as forward off the end of the pattern. Ops will be a step down coverwise but will stand up harder and be more forward when it gets to the end of the pattern. So if you like how assyms stand up and sit, then the Tactical is your choice. You want a bigger symmetrical piece, Eon is it.

I got to use my Tactical Ops last night for the first time. PBA Dragon pattern. The shot was hooking a little more than last week. The plan was to start with the RIP'd and ball down into this. I ended up starting with the Tactical Ops and using it all night. It's a no-tap league, but I managed to shoot a season high of 798. The ball gave me a lot of area on the pattern. I'd estimate that it would have been a 660+ series, assuming I made most of my spares. Definitely had more natural strikes than no-taps.

We'll see how it does on the "house" shot tonight. I put that in quotes because it has been tighter/tougher than the PBA patterns this summer. More hook in. Less hook out. Supposedly the oiler has been cleaned and they are putting down a new shot tonight.

I have decided to get the Eon next. I should really try to get a Covert Ops as well. 2 for 2 on Ops balls so far.

Honestly, I'm hard pressed to think of a ball with that core in it that hasn't been good. They need to just keep the numbers the same and let the ball be what it is. No more tweaking of a good weightblock.
