Badger vs Black ops
« on: May 01, 2018, 10:53:22 AM »
Been really liking the line up for 900 lately and ordered a Badger. After a little more research I found the Black Ops and like the look of it as well but part of me is thinking these two balls are going to sit on top of each other in my bag as far as length and strength.

For any of you guys that have thrown both or just have more knowledge on the subject, am I right in my thinking or wrong? I'm kinda hoping I'm wrong lol

Thanks.

IMO, totally different. Badger is higher RG, lower diff. The Badger is going to be less and off the spot.

If I were you, I'd keep the Badger at OOB, and then add some surface to the Black Ops. Maybe 2000. The Ops series comes alive with a little surface.

Doom hit it. Personally I love the Badger and do not see over/under reaction on a fresh THS even with its polished OOB surface, so I wouldn't change it. You could easily adjust the Black Ops surface to play off the Badger as you see fit.

With surface is the Black Ops still say a whole ball down from the Covert Ops and its S72 cover?

A full ball down? Probably not. I wouldn't expect a big difference between S72 and S70. If anything just a small shape difference with the Black Ops being slightly longer and a little more angular

Full ball down? No. Only way I could see keeping the Black and Covert in the bag is to change layouts and surfaces.

I'm drilling 2 Coverts very soon. One with my favorite layout on a Break core, 50*5*65, and keeping that at OOB. Second one will be 45*4.5*30 and taking that to 1000. I feel that will be an awesome piece for when the fronts are flooded and I need lots of flare.

Would you think Dream On, Black Ops at say 3k, and a Badger make sense if I wanted a full new 3 ball bag? Considering I throw a Fanatic SS 75% of the time at my current house I don't think I need anything weaker than the badger; which kinda sounds funny b/c I really don't see the badger as a weak ball at all.

It's a prettier Hyroad. I watched Sam Cooley throw this is in person a few weeks back on Route 66 from about 6th arrow and he won the tournament. I'm considering one for a 2nd shift scratch league I'm going to bowl this summer. Our rotation is almost identical, he just has about 175-200rpms more on it than I do. It just has that shape that will look good for 90% of the styles out there. Glides down lane and super continuous.

I love my Dream On, and it's even stronger off the spot for me than the Ops. I could see the Ops at maybe 4000 to separate the On and Ops, but you can try it.

I do like the idea of 4k on the OPS as well. Do you think this is a good idea or do you see a ball in the 900 line that would be a better fit between the Dream On and Badger?

That depends on what you're looking for. But the Ops line fits perfectly there. On, Ops, and Badger is a pretty sweet looking 3 ball bag.
