Ball close to Rotogrip Theory
« on: December 09, 2014, 06:05:50 PM »
I normally throw Storm/Rotogrip, but was thinking of trying something different. I need something for heavier volumes of oil that still has plenty of pop on the backend. What would you guys think is comparable to the RG Theory? I love this ball, but has a ton of games on it. Was looking at the Moxie or Dream on. Do any of these compare?

If you want to stay within Storm/Roto Grip, the Hyper Cell will be a little stronger than the Theory.  If you go outside Storm/Roto Grip, there is the DV8 Thug, Brunswick Mastermind, and Motiv Raptor Talon (on closeout, recently discontinued).

If you go with 900 Global, the closest would probably be the Moxie.  Keep in mind that the Theory is a solid whereas the Moxie has a hybrid cover.  You'll clear the heads a little better while getting a little more pop on the backend.  The other major difference is that the Moxie uses a symmetrical core vs asymmetrical.

I think the closest might be the Brunswick Mastermind Intellect. Solid cover that doesn't quite dig in like the Hyper Cell or original Mastermind which I think makes it slightly more versatile

Hyper cell dude....

Bill,

You can't be serious. How can a particle coverstock like the hyper Cell be anywhere near as flippy as the plain reactive flippiness of the Theory?

A teammate throws both the Zero Gravity and my old Theory that I gave him. Both are drilled the same and they are virtual clones of one another. If anything, the Theory is slightly more flippy, but not by much.

My original theory was not flippy by a long shot.  I am serious.  I still have my original theory with a NIB in the wings....don't make me order a new hyper and do a comparison video 8)

My theory was a rolly son of a gun!

One of my team mates believes this as well...has both.

If wanna talk flippy we can talk critical!

Perception is everything.
Mine was as flippy as the day is long. I guess it all depends on your  delivery and how you drilled it.

For me, both at 2000 and "solid" ...maybe I'm just happy that particle cover on the hyper had a good core this time!?

+1 on being flippy, just brought my Theory out last night after not using for a while and was reminded how long it goes for a solid, even drilled pin under.  Love how it stores up energy for the breakpoint.  The reaction reminds me so much of a strong hybrid.  So maybe a ball similar to this would be the Sinister.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. But I was kind of wanting to try a ball from 900 Global. But as a lot of you have stated, my Theory does snap at the end, but it also has some teeth in the midlane. I was just wanting to retire the ball and find something equivalent in this line. The Moxie and the Dream On just looked real interesting from all the vids I've seen.

If you want a ball that can handle oil and still has some flip on the end like your Theory, then the Dream On is the ball for you.  The Moxie for me is a little more midlane reaction for me than the Dream On, where as the Dream on pushed through the fronts and has some great pop on the backend.
