Title: ball down or at least different from a Storm Match-up Hybrid
Post by: SG17 on June 30, 2018, 11:50:34 PM
In my sport league, I tend to struggle on the shorter patterns.  like say, Kegels Boardwalk.

Last year my PSO recommended a Storm Match-up and for several patterns it was just what the doctor ordered.  however, as lanes transitioned or on the really short it wasn't the right ball.  I used a Storm Ride and a really well worn Storm La Nina as options when the Match up wasn't the right ball.

The Ride cracked out a while back.  so I am looking for a ball.  I have also been 97% storm balls for last 10 years or more.  This got me thinking of something in the Ops family.  like the shadow ops.

Reviews I have read are not too kind to the Shadow ops on sport patterns.

Perhaps Doom or other Global fan can suggest a) a good first Global ball and B) one that would compliment my Match-up hybrid on sport patterns

After dark solid which is polished is the new low end answer I would think.

The Shadow Ops worked great for me on the new Cheetah, so I wouldn't write it off. On short patterns, I prefer to use balls with surface to slow down the transition and/or bleed off energy - even stronger balls, depending on the pattern. Urethane often works as well.

That After Dark Solid does look like it will be great for this too. I'd probably knock the shine off, but that's just me.

After Dark all the way, knock off the factory shine and let it go.

One caveat. A Shadow Ops (Drilled strong) is going to be a good ball on shorter fresh patterns, because even though S30 is weak, it's still resin. I used to be able to cover some ground with my Link because it was so clean. Use the proper tools at the proper time, and you will shoot lights out.
