Picking up a Break Point
« on: September 19, 2009, 08:47:24 AM »
On recommendation of my pro shop owner.  I was looking for something to replace my Cell and wanted to try something besides a Storm/Roto ball.

I don't pick it up until Tuesday, but I've noted a serious lack of information out there on this ball (videos/reviews).  My guess is that it was a late season release, and they generally don't get much press.  So what's the 411 on this ball?  Who likes it?  Who hates it?  What spot does it fill in your arsenal?

I'm hoping to use this ball as my fresh shot ball, and switch to my Rapid Fire when things break down.  I'll probably dull up my cell and use it as my oiler.

A guy on our team has 2.  They are both strong, and both can handle good amounts of oil.  Check out the Break S75 online, as its got a similar reaction shape (in our personal experience).

The guy with 2 has one with a 1" pin, and it HOOKS!  Its actually stronger than his Bounty Hunter on the shots he's used it on.  The other one has a 2.5" pin with a moderate layout, and it rolls very similarly to his S75, but changing up the covers fixes the overlap.

Depending on your actual style, using it on a fresh shot is a good idea (if you have a lot of hand, you'll probably be playing inside with it, depending on oil volume).

Love the Break Point. I keep mine at box finish. I find the S-75 to be stronger and earlier than the Break Point.

The Break Point is right now my favorite and most versatile ball. I personally wouldn't suggest it for most "fresh" conditions as it has a lot of backend finish and I would rather see a smooth motion on most fresh conditions. It really just depends on what kind of "fresh" you are talking about. If you are talking about league fresh, then you will be fine, if you are talking about tournament fresh then that is where I would disagree.

I hope this helps.

I really like the Break Point as well, it's an interesting piece for me the overall motion is impressive to say the least.I have noticed for my game it has almost like a Pearlized ball motion off the spot while maintaining a strong mid lane read. Length is effortless as well. Typical 900 Global carry. There stuff just hits and carries way better than almost anything else I have thrown. By far my favorite company right now. I would not recommend this ball for shorter/lighter patterns, there are plenty of other choices better suited for those patterns.

Well, I picked it up last night.  It's drilled 55x4.5x40, which puts the pin slightly above and right of ring and MB 1-2" right of thumb.  The first thing I noticed is that it's pretty strong throughout the whole lane, with a good amount of pop on the backend.  Probably 5 boards stronger than my cell.  Ball motion was very predictable when it seemed everyone else was having issues with over/under.

I didn't think I would have enough oil to use it all 3 games, but recovery wasn't a problem as I moved deeper.  I usually have to switch to my Rapid Fire at the start of the 3rd game, but my teammate who was watching me mentioned that I should just move left slow it down and circle the lane more.  He was right, and the ball still had plenty of steam at the pins.  Carry was above average, and excellent on light hits.

I went 243-197-243 with a split-open in the 10th of the first game (had a shot at 280).
