Title: Break S75 Question
Post by: cappy718 on March 05, 2010, 11:25:50 PM
I was hoping to find some opinions about the S75 vs Brunswicks C-system 3.5.  I''ve thrown the 3.5 and was blown away at how smooth it got down the lane and then HOOKED, but I can get a deal on the s75.  I know each ball may not suit a bowlers style, but I''m just trying to make the best decision.  This is the first new ball I''m looking to buy in a while.  Last being the original fury, which is still a great ball.  Just looking to drop to 14lbs in order to get more speed on my ball.  With my 15s I''m throwing (RH) around 13.5mph 20-10ish boards mostly.  I can move further inside if the pattern is dry but I become inconsistent then.  I appreciate any help yall can offer!

Don't know a lot about the 3.5 (I have to buy American), but the s75 is very strong. For me it probably covers more boards on most patterns than anything else I have ever had. When I am lined up with it, it is money but can be somewhat condition specific at times (most balls are). I have about 250 games on mine and it still hooks a lot, probably not quite as much as it did when it was new but close.

I realize that a ball might only work on certain conditions as well.  My normal house is a med/med-heavy pattern.  I can land a new s75 for 84 bucks.  Should I just hold off on the c system since it's still like 140?  I just got a Visionary Gladiator Pearl that was used and enjoy this ball, but really looking for something good to get in a 14 (stepping down from 15).  Its going to take me a while to rotate out all my 15lbs, but I gotta start somewhere!    I appreciate the help!

Kong!  Just the person I was looking for!  Someone that had both.  I really appreciate that.  I've heard they both hit like a truck.  Like I said, I've thrown the 3.5 and really liked it.  It didnt matter whether it was pocket side or brooklyn, it gave so much pin action it still gave me a strike.  I only threw it 3 times because my buddy finally let me throw it when I had to leave!  But I had a great 10th frame.  I think I am going with the s75 because of the price.  But if anyone else has more info, please let me know.  I wont get it till tomorrow or Monday.  Thanks again!

I don't have the C-System. I just have the S75, but it's the best ball I've ever owned. And after throwing Storm's X-Factor when it first came out, I never thought I'd hear myself saying that about any other ball.

I've had 2 S-75's one pin under and one pin up. Both were awesome pices Very smooth with great continuation through the pins. When i was having over/under with everything else the s-75 would smooth the pattern out. Due to my slow speed i didn't get to throw either of them alot but when i did get the chance they were money in the bank

Great ball! All around solid performer. I do not have anything but good results with this one. Have 2 (#1 w/ a double thumb & #2 with a 50*x5"x20*) and both are very versatile. From a THS to sport, this ball is money. Consistent midlane reaction and great continuation through the pin deck. Can be thrown on multiple lines. You won't be disappointed and once you see the hit and carry, you will be addicted. One ball leads to another.

LOL!  I think you guys have sold me on the s75.  My wife and I went to the casino last night and made 400 dollars into 800 dollars!!! I dont think she's going to be upset if I get a new ball!  ha!  Thanks again!

I always practice with a ball before I throw in league play anyhow. I throw 5-10 practice games a week!    I'm looking forward to it.  I'll definitely let you all know what I think!  Should get it in a week or so, hopefully

In that case, I'll do extra practice with it this weekend.  It's already in Jackson MS.  It only has to make it to Biloxi!  I cant wait.  Plus since I went down to a 14 I'll be able to throw it for longer!  Me to get 25 games on a ball doesnt take much!    I appreciate it and I'm looking forward to it!

Okay, so I got my ball!  It's 14.4 oz. top 3 oz. and 1.5-2 in pin.  I am having problems with my balls not going long enough before turning.  I know this is an aggressive ball.  What drilling would you all recommend? I dont know all the technical stuff, so try to keep it simple please!

how fast and how hard do you turn the ball?? what type of lanes do you bowl on and do you bowl first or second shift??

Okay, speed is around 13mph revs med-high.  I dont know actual count.  On a dry pattern, I can hook the whole lane with a gladiator pearl.  Lanes are a medium pattern mostly.  Synthetic.  And league typical house shot is what kind of oil I''m on!  Thanks again yall

cappy
now, what are you looking to get out of this ball?? this ball has a strong cover and a stronger core in it.. it will need oil for you to throw it.. a 5x5x2 will give some added length and a good bounce off the spot.. if you are looking for a little earlier reaction, more of a rolly ball that arcs hard you can go with a 5x4x3.5... I would suggest keeping the pin up because of your ball speed being slower and you having some hand on the ball..

Definitely looking for more length since I am having most of my equipment turn up early on me.  I understand that its a strong ball, just planning on drilling it weaker/for more length.

Is the fact that the pin/cg/mb are not in line matter?  I''ve read a few things that say it really doesnt.  The cg is kicked out to the right maybe an inch.

If you are right handed and the CG is kicked to the right, you will most likely need a balance hole to make it static legal.  With asymmetrical balls(starting as undrilled since punching holes in a symmetrical ball makes the ball asymmetrical) the CG if not in line would be best to be opposite of what hand you bowl with.

Well, crap I'm at work and I should have taken a picture of the ball...ha!  This ball was listed as a 1st?!?!  HMMM...

The ball will have an X in the serial number. This isn't a really long ball, its not as snappy as the break pearl, but its far from a rolly arc.

If you are wanting some length out of this ball. Pin up 5 x 4.5 to 5 with the MB would be a good drill. If you track high like myself a 5 1/2 x 5 would be the drill you are looking for.

There is no X in the serial number but the CG is slightly kicked out to the right about an inch.  Keep in mind it's a shorter pin only 1.5-2".  Thanks again yall!

Just because the pin, CG, and MB are not in line doesn't mean the ball is a 2nd or x-out.  The ideal ball would be everything lined up.  The next would be the CG opposite side of what hand you bowl with within an inch.  I can't tell specifically how the manufacturer decides if a ball is a 2nd or x-out.  From a little experience it's usually a very long pin, high top weight, or color issues.

Well this one is not an x-out.  Either way, my NVS is like this as well and rolls just fine.  Just noticed that tonight...with my dang low 476 series!!! EEEKK!  Rolled great all week in practice and blow it on league.  Altho my team bowled for crap we took total pin count by 7 and the last game...lol.  And we bowled the team that has the best bowler in the league on it.  ha!  Really didnt think we had that, but anyways....

I hope this ball works out.  I am taking it to a different driller that wont just drill all my balls the same way.  I prolly made him mad the first ball he drilled for me because I had to have it with stacked drilling.  And it didnt do crap for me the way I was throwing it then...lol.  I can hook the moon with it now.  but I am going to apologize to him first and ask him what I should do with it after throwing another ball of mine. I'll be glad to be throwing a 14 nonetheless!  Thanks yall!

Okay, got it drilled.  I forgot how expensive it was to just walk into a shop and have them drill a ball.  My normal PS guy has been sick that only charges me like 15 bucks to drill a ball...LOL!  Anyhow, I've uploaded some pics, but here are how the PS guy said I should drill it after he watched me throw about a game.

http://pbckt.com/sc.HVP

Pin down
PAP: 4.5 (right) 3/4 (up)
Pin: 4 3/8
MB: 5

This ball gets through the heads so nice!  But when it smells friction, kiss it good bye!  Pin action is really nice even if you miss your mark.  I threw like 6 strikes in a row right out of the drill press.  When the guy that drilled it threw it with his higher rev count he was to the left of the head arrow, then out to 10 and back for strike.  I really like the ball so far.  Lets see how it treats me in league play.

I'm a little surprised at what read you are getting on this ball since its drilled pin down.  With your speed, the ball should be hooking earlier.  I have relatively slow ball speed and I can't keep an S75 off from hooking at 35 feet or less unless there's a flood.  I can't throw anything pin down due to my PAP and hitting the thumb.  I've tried numerous hand positions and can't seem to get off the thumb with this kind of drilling.  Coaching hasn't helped either.  This ball will become stronger though as time goes by due to the coverstock.

I know, but I went with what the PS guy thought after watching me throw...If I need to shine it up...i will!  I figured he knew better than I did...we'll see what happens..
