cracking. So done with their stuff!!!
« on: September 29, 2013, 12:47:44 PM »
My bank just cracked. This is number 6 that have cracked from that plant.  My Storm, Ebi, and Brunswick have never cracked.  I'm so done with their stuff. Wasting hard earned money. Expensive as all hell. Anyone want a 14lb Look?  Single drill. Not cracked. Less than 10 games. I also have a bounty hunter pearl a black and pink Hook. All free just pay for shipping. Doom, if you or sevenpin want them I can meet you guys somewhere.

They all crack. I have an undrilled EBI Matrix Conquest crack on the shelf two weeks ago. I have had drilled balls crack with less then 20 games and most of their life sitting in my office.

My brother drills fewer balls then me and has had far more crack then I ever have. I attribute most of it to the glue. I do not use finger inserts, and since going away from them I have only had two crack of 100s.

It will happen with any bowling ball from any manufacture just don't forget that.

I also take care of my equipment, never left in car, cleaned after every set and on a rack in my office when not on the lane. (66 to 76 degrees)
I rotate all my equipment a half turn every week.
Have had Storm, Roto, EBI, Hammer, VBP and Lane Masters and have never had one crack.
So don't assume that people are not taken care of their equipment. Most bowlers I know take better care of their equipment then anything else they own.
Believe someone mentioned thin shell and that seems like what would be the problem.

In many HP balls you have the larger cores which causes thinner shells in spots.

So far I had the original Break and S-75 crack from my thumb hole (switch grip) all the way around the back to the finger holes(grips), but this also happened to a Mutant Cell and a Taboo.

I have had balls from almost every manufacturer crack.  Surprisingly none of my really old stuff has cracked.  I have had some crack on the floor of my closet.  some on a rack in the basement.  Read a tip from someone here, and I now wrap all of my balls in saran wrap when I store them for a while.  None have cracked since then.  Seems to provide an extra thermal layer.  Don't really know, but it works.  None in storage have cracked since I Started using Saran Wrap.

I've never had a global ball crack which is mainly what I have been throwing the last couple years.  I've had a Storm Shift,  a Roto Cell, and most recently a Brunswick Nexxus crack all sitting in climate controlled areas.  Seems like it can happen to any company

Only ones I've had that cracked were plugged and redrilled in the same spot. I don't use grips, but I do use an IT sleeve and don't bevel my fingers.

Most of my stuff that is cracked is AMF, Columbia, or 900 Global.
I've heard almost all of it comes from a San Antonio plant where the humidity leaves the cores uncured, this passed as information on this website.

Surprisingly I have a couple of Storm based stuff cracked or start cracking.
One being a Cell, another being a Triple X Factor, also a Tropic heat started.  Both the Triple X and Tropic I caught at the bridge and stopped with surgery by my pro shop.  Almost all my balls that crack have plug in them, and some drilling into the plug.

My stuff is kept in a blazingly hot garage where I leave a fan on most of them.

Almost none of the fan touched balls ever crack.  Surprisingly I have two AMF Radars that are not under the fan and have had no problems(both first drill).

Brunswicks seem to really hold up.

DonMonroe, I wonder how Saran Wrap would help in a blazingly hot garage?  Then we suffer from tremendous temperature change in the winter from night to day.

BobOhio, could you expand on your half turn idea?

Regards,

Luckylefty

I didn't say that the saran Wrap will work in extremes like an unheated garage.  But it does seem to work in a closet and in a basement that is about the same temp as the rest of the house.  Didn't mean to confuse anyone.

My theory is......cracking can happen to really any ball manufacturing company. It seems to especially happen to the latest and greatest, high performance balls.

I believe the main reason is the technology used to create these high polymer, super soft covers, that have diverse, and almost corrugated topography built into them. The companies do this to get the highest friction quotient, science will allow...thus making these tiger paw covers that grab extremely hard.

With so many gaps betwen the hills and valleys of these surfaces, there is bound to be cracking. The various temperatures and climates have too many nooks that it can invade!

P.S. My older balls however do not crack. Obviously their surfaces are smoother and harder. None of my old Zones have cracked!
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

4 out of the 7 Global balls I've owned have cracked.  They replaced the first two, but even that like someone else said doesn't end up being free.  The last 2 my messages were ignored.  Like others, I take extreme care of them.  Even drag them in & out of my office on league day so as not to spend 8 hours in the car.

I cant say its only global though....but their percentage sure is terrible.  Here is my naughty list:

3 Odysseys
Saga
RSP
2 sheer havocs
power swing
big blue pearl
sr 300
2 The nuts
Train
