Creature Pearl or Link?
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:19:59 AM »
Anyone have both and could compare the two?  Obviously the Creature Pearl is going to be a bit stronger but my issue is the weakest ball I have in the bag right now is a Cherry Vibe and was thinking about getting something for the last half of league.  Will the Creature be too similar to the Vibe?  I was actually even thinking of getting something like a Starburst (or some other plastic with a core) since I have plenty of hand and am looking for something to play a lot straighter when our old wood lanes suck up the oil before I can blink.

I have both of them.  The Creature Pearl is symmetrical.  It does have a proven core and for me, it is more angular.  The coverstock is obviously much stronger than the Link.  The Link, even though it is asymmetrical, gets about 3-5 more feet in length and isn't as angular.  The Link though, does become stronger as games are put on it.  You should be able to square up with the Link much better than a Creature.  Depending on where you track, you could use a Link with a pin on the center midline above your fingers.  This will make the ball obviously go longer and would be more angular.  I can't compare a Vibe since I only throw the old Track equipment and now the 900 Global equipment.

My track has lowered considerably in the past couple months and is probably 2 inches off both the finger and thumb but it still probably 10-11 inches in diameter I would say.  Not that it matters much I suppose as I will discuss that with Carl.  I am just trying to weigh in my options at this point.  Thanks for the input that's the kind of stuff I was looking for.

I have both, but not the Vibe. You are correct in assuming the CP in stronger than the Link. That said, both balls react strongly when the encounter friction. Based on your needs, I would recommend the Link over the CP. It sounds like you are looking for the weakest resin you can get your hands on.

In addition, I would still recommend adding the XXXL. I cannot imagine being without mine

hello kidjete
just a word of warning, I have all the 900global balls except for the creature solid.. I also have alot of hand and I have discovered that the link is "very very very" wet dry sensitive ball.. I have changed the cover on it from the original state to 1k,2k,4k(dull)and all types of polish and just can't find a happy medium for this ball.. I think the creature pearl with a weaker drilling and a surface change to 4k w/water(1st) and if you still need more length just a light hit of polish(not shiny) will work better on your old wooden lanes.. now heres the catch I myself have never thrown my link on wooden lanes, sooo "maybe" it just sucks on synthetic..

I bought the CP to be my weakest ball, this was before the link was released. For me, this ball NIB was anything but weak. I have never had a ball kick so much at the backend before.
I would not recomend that ball as a dry lane ball. Though its a goos medium oiled lane ball for me, and its much more controlled at the BP now when i have some games on it.

The house I would use it on wouldn't be very wet/dry.  The lanes are oiled by hand and the backends never fly.  And as I said with them being old wood lanes, they tend to dry up fairly quickly.  Over/under isn't as much of a concern as trying to find something to be able to square up a little more.  When the shot is fresh I normally stand around 35ish with my Break Pearl.  Cherry Vibe is 5-6 boards right of that but to keep up with the oil I gotta move pretty often and a lot of times end up left of 40.  The BP does have enough to kick out the corners without a problem but I would love to have something I can stand around 20-25ish maybe.
