Desert Ops
« on: August 26, 2019, 07:39:53 AM »
Got my hands on a Desert Ops. I was thinking of sanding it to 500 for some extra movement on the back-end. Has anyone sanded their Desert Ops?
I have a Shadow Ops and a Tactical ops.

I don't know why I am replying to this post but had a hard time resisting.  You want to take a ball designed for dry conditions and attempt to make it hook more on the backend by sanding it? All I can say is no. Surface will get it started earlier. Your tactical would be a better option but since you like that core shape you should try to find something with a higher diff and intermediate diff like the Black Ops if you can find one. I'm sure Doom can add a better perspective.

Hey Skip, thanks for the replay.
To be honest I've never thrown a ball with this low of a differential before, but I do like the Break Core. I'm not one who changes the cover stock, but was curious to see if anyone has on this ball.

First, are you looking for the ball to have a bigger backend move or hook sooner and be smoother? Hitting that ball with 500 will make it roll like urethane.

Thanks Doom for the reply.
I guess a bigger backend move is what I'm looking for. I don't need it to roll like urethane, I have my Shadow Ops for that.

S70 pearl is strong. You're gonna get as much angle as the core will allow by going 2000 plus polish. How is it drilled?

Remember, this is the same core shape as the Black/Tactical, but modified to raise the rg and lower the diff.

I haven't drilled it yet. It's coming in the mail.
If I leave it at the 1500 grit polish do you feel it will be a ball between my Shadow Ops and Tactical Ops or go with 2000 plus polish?

It will fit perfectly. Shadow for control, tactical for heavier volumes, Desert in between. If it's oob, leave it and.try it. If it's too.touchy, do 2000 plus polish
