I have a look pin up over the bridge its so strong for me that I cant imagine drilling it pin down unless you have alot of ball speed or not many revs

Depends on if you want more continuation or if you want it to set up faster in the back of the lane....I love my breaks/eagle with pin down. They are very continuous and are great on ths. My look I have pin up and it is a similar amount of hook just sets up faster in the back....

Good point dub I was just saying I have a lot of revs and not a lot of ball speed so for me being under 18 mph it sets up fine and is a very strong ball for me.

Both balls are extremely versatile from what I've seen. Pin up makes the drill angle bigger making the balls more suitable for covering boards and recovery on the dry while pin down will drop the drill angle and make the balls more suitable for oil and/or closing the angle to the pocket.

Pin up or down has nothing to do with the drill angle......It has to do with the pin buffer or the VAL angle. Pin up or down will not start up any earlier than the other. The VAL angle or pin buffer controls how fast a ball transitions going from hook to roll. A smaller VAL angle/pin buffer (or pin up) will transition faster during the hook to roll transtion (or a sharper breakpoint) which while the larger VAL angle/pin buffer will transtion slower (or a more continuous breakpoint). A common misconception is that pin down "rolls" sooner than pin up. All other things equal, its actually opposite. But somewhere along the lines someone started describing the continuous hook of pin down as "rolly" and I believe that is where that misconception came from.

Without seeing you throw the ball, knowing any of your stats, or knowing what kind of shot you are on it is very difficult to suggest "pin up or down".....

Here is an article which describes how a layout affects flare.

Ah, ye olde track flare study. You are correct sir. In relation to pin up or down VAL becomes most relevant more so on Asyms. Was just trying to give a generic analysis of pin up or down and also keeping the persons drill sum. To keep the persons drill sum, you would shrink the drill angle if deciding to go pin down. Even if you kept the pin to PAP the same, going pin down without shrinking the drill sum will create a large drill sum. Hence, as to why it is described as "rolly" because your shrinking the drill angle, creating an earlier hook phase for a heavier roll phase.
