Dyno Soaker coverstocks?
« on: October 13, 2008, 11:53:24 PM »
I thought I read somewhere that the soaker covers needed some break in time before they actually showed their true colors.

I recently aquired a Element Ne10, drilled it almost exactly like my Heist which is 4 3/4 X 4 for element, 4 3/4 X 3 3/4 for Heist, both pin in ring.

i took them both to 4000 abralon to see what differences I could see in them. Well I used the Element the other night in league and struggled with very inconsistent reaction, throwing good balls even farily strait it would labor to get to the pocket, but if threw it in the dry to quick it would hook hard, shot a 153, this is in OOB surface by the way.

Made the changes with both balls, went to practice last night on a fresh medium longer pattern, maybe 41-43 feet. Was interchanging balls, Ne10 then Heist. Same thing was happening with the Element, it would labor the first game, even playing a tight swing. The Heist was hooking about 10-12 more boards than it pretty easily. As the night went on though the ball seemed to be getting stronger and stronger, and by then I could play deeper with the Element than the Heist. Only bowled 3 games by myself so didn't burn up the lane very bad. My backend reaction was increasing to a hard arc flip. It really seemed like a different ball, and had pins flying everywhere.

Has anyone else seen this with SOaker coverstocks? I was confused with this ball at first but now I think it is coming alive now.

maybe the ball needed to get some type of track going on the cover for the ball to read correctly..  it also just might not be as strong a ball as the amf on ealier oil conditions.. it also could need a little burn to get it rolling right..

Nope, sanding or roughing up the Soakers does not help.

Yes, LaneHammer20, the Soakers need 20 - 30 games to show their true colors. I often wondered if, unlike the oil suckers, these balls need to absorb some oil to start hooking. Whatever, don't start playing with their surfaces until you have at least 20 - 25 games on them and they start hooking. Once they start hooking, I'm inclined to think you'll be happy with them/it.

The NE10 is supposed to be somewhat like the Heist, a THS specialist, "decent", all-around, medium oil ball.

charlest, that is what I thought I had heard. I will leave it at the abralon 4000 finish and keep putting more games on it. it has about 3 games on it as we speak, and the reaction seems to be growing or atleast it showed last night. I am really excited about this ball, I hope in the future it posts some big scores for me.

What Charlest said.  I've owned a couple and somewhere around the 20 game mark you could see a difference.  After they are broken in, you can change the coverstock without needing a new break in period.  So whatever it is at now, leave it for a couple weeks, then you can tweak to fit your needs.

I had a thing returns, and it was acting just like your saying,it would just roll and bog out and have no backend.
after a few weeks of league and struggling like mad,one week the ball started clearing the heads and throwing pins everywhere...total different ball.
give it a 20-30 games and see if it wakes up for you.

well my ball isn't burning up, it was just acting really weak, I was like I know this ball is stronger than this. Then after putting about 2 games on it it is now acting more like I thought it was going to be like. Thats not many games, and will report back after getting like 20 on it.
