Good Ball Motion Videos
« on: May 28, 2020, 12:35:41 PM »
Came across a old friend of mine that is on staff with Global and has a good number of ball videos on youtube.  If you search for "Joel Donner", he has all the Badger balls, the Continuums, After Dark Pearl, a Boost, and a couple others.  He reminds me a little bit of a left handed version of EJ Tackett.  Might be worth checking out if anyone is interested on how these balls roll.

Have watched this lefty's videos before, but his rev rate is unattainable to this old man, so while it looks good, isn't worth my time in viewing same I figure. He's very good @ what he does though.  ;)

I completely understand.  However; it is about matching ball speed to rev rate.  Lets say Joel is 19 mph and 500 rpms.  His ball motion would be similar to someone with 17 mph and 350 rpms.

EX:  If you watch the Tour, this would be a good comparison.  When Kris Prather moves in and slow hooks it; he is around 17.5 and 400.  Belmo on the other hand is 19 and 540.  Yet they are on staff with the same company, using the same balls, and playing similar part of the lane (give or take a couple boards).  I have seen both of these guys use the Idol Pearl and Phaze 2 quite a bit on TV.

Now lets use you as an example.  If you are comparable to Norm Duke or even Pete Weber who are around 17 and 325+ and lets use the Idol Solid, that ball is not going to roll that different for you than someone like Belmo.  The ball is still going to be a smoother transition ball.  It would not be a skid/flip for one and super smooth for the other simply because the ball is not designed to be angular.  Where you could see a difference is if you were comparing a speed dominate person to a rev dominate person.

So, while you may not have the same specs as Joel, you still get the idea as to what the ball is going to do.

I agree with your summation. Was just commenting that what I saw from this professional couldn't work for this old man due to age and balance issues. I'm sure his style would work for others, especially younger student's of the game of bowling, and of course I wish them all the luck available in making adjustments to their game using said video as a reference / learning app.  :)
