Got my Bounty
« on: December 22, 2008, 03:33:29 AM »
Okay, well I got my Bounty today. Now I just need to figure out how to drill it. I'm looking at bringing my Pain back to OOB which was 4000 Abralon and drilling up my Bounty to use on the longer patterns and/or more volume.

I was thinking maybe a 4.5 x 4.5MB layout

The unique thing about the bounty, is its ability to consistently recover from misses to the right, even on heavier volumes and flatter patterns. What you are looking for with the layout is something to provide you with this recovery.

You are looking for medium flare, and a medium rg core position. I would suggest going 5 by 60, and placing the pin height to your personal preference. If you prefer an even roll off the break without any jump, place the pin below. If you prefer a sharper move, place the pin above your fingers.

All the best. I hope you enjoy using the ball as much as I do (when I get the chance LOL)

Good Luck!

I threw one a week ago that was my proshop's Bounty and it was very smooth, but strong and had alot of recovery. I'm looking for a little more than medium flare, hence why i was thinking of doing a 4 1/2 by 4 1/2MB layout possibly even 4 1/4 x 4 1/4... Thought I would come here for some support on my idea or any suggestions

Take it in to the pro shop that let you try it out and ask what they think?

I would watch the pin under drillings, I hated mine on the Bounty, it burnt up so fast. And when it came to the heavier stuff, I didn't see the "recover from anywhere" that has been stated on here. I ended up happy with it at 4000 with polish as a medium 3 game ball. Just my findings!

i agree with tizzle the bounty is by far the strongest ball i have ever thrown i got a 5 inch pin and inch above my highest finger  and to the left of my span by  1 inch and it is still the earliest rolling ball I have thrown and I have drilled over 200 balls from all companies.    Pin down not a good option. The bounty would expell too much energy too quick hence the no recovery from anywhere.  This ball is pure hook in a box where the pain is not.  This ball is stronger than your pain and if you took it to 600 like your pain then it is astronomically stronger. Just my humble opinion take it for what its worth hope it may help you decide.

Back to the left side and loving it time to get my share of the bounty here i come.

SVstar34,..you answered your own question "drilling up my Bounty to use on the longer patterns and/or more volume" is what you seem to want to do.

Personally, on longer oil patterns with increased volume I'm looking for a ball/layout that gives me readability and control. My favorite drilling for this is a simple 3 1/2 x 4.  I like a 2 1/2 to 3 inch pin to do this, normally trying to get the pin just above and outside the ring finger, with the cg somewhere in the middle of the grip or under the ring finger, and the Mb pointed toward the track just left of the thumb hole...I like 1000 or lower surface dullish, and try to stay away from a extra hole if at all possible to keep the flare down some. This layout usually works well when you have to follow the oil line as the track drys and lets the ball read the track with out being over-under and jumpy. Good Bowling je
