Title: Infrared & Inception Pearl First Impressions
Post by: Curt_Dupre on October 18, 2016, 09:26:18 AM
Hey Everyone, just wanted to give a quick first impression on the Infrared & Inception Pearl. I threw the Infrared last night for the first time during league. First set with it 771 (Blah-Blah just THS). Now as to where this ball really fits into the bag. Sometimes a ball company states what their intentions were for a ball, and it doesn't react like that at all, well the Infrared definitely does everything that 900 Global set out to design. It truly fits right in between the Truth and X for me. The stronger cover and core allow it to be stronger than the X, especially when the X sees heavier oil. The Infrared is probably 3 boards stronger than the X, but the motion of the infrared is stronger due to cover and higher diff core, whereas the X has a much lower diff. By the way my Infrared and X C are drilled the same. Pin over bridge (5 inches from axis) with no hole.

Now as for the Inception Pearl. The original Inception for me was definitely cleaner than the Dream Big Solid (Strong and Rolly). So I was really hoping to see a cleaner version of the Dream Big Pearl (One of my favorite balls ever). So far what i see is the Inception Pearl is cleaner through the fronts for me over my like drilled Dream Big Pearl. The Inception Pearl has more angle for me down lane, but it isn't uncontrollable. The Dream and Dream Big line were huhe sellers and great motions in our lineup. What i am seeing out of this Inception line are reactions that are slightly more down lane than as early as the Dream Big line. So for me that means more usable bowling balls. My Dream Big Pearl is drilled pin above middle with mass bias, half of an inch from thumb. My Inception Pearl is drilled pin in the middle finger with mass bias half inch from thumb. Feel free to ask any questions.

I'm excited for the infrared, that core used to be amazing, I'm glad to see it back!

It definitely helps get the ball around the corner. The X, which I love, is very very smooth. The Infrared not only hooks more, but definitely has a more pronounced motion. I can easily see myself on some shots going from the Truth then to the Infrared and then X.

My X and Drift are waiting for me at the shop. I think the X is going to be very similar to my Night Hawk, so a stronger Night Hawk motion would be awesome.

I'm surprised it took over ten years for the core to resurface.  I'll probably get one in hopes that the cover is a good match, and I get to resurrect some old memories!

Not going to lie, I was hoping the Inception Pearl would be compared to the original Dream. That ball has been on my radar for quite some time.

I didn't have a chance to drill up a Dream. I'll ask some others that have had a Dream to tell me how it compares for them.

How would the Infrared compare to the Black Ops?

How would the Infrared compare to the Black Ops?
When I drilled the Infrared and Inception Pearl, I also drilled a new black ops. I haven't thrown it yet, but I will definitely let you know. I have had 4 Black Ops so far, I would say my initial impressions will probably be that the Black Ops is going to be cleaner (shiny vs. Dull), but having that big asymmetric core, it should maybe be one to three weaker on the fresh than the Infrared. But remember they will have two completely different motions.

Has the Black Op's ever been a go to on the fresh option for you?

It depends on what I am bowling on. I do a good bit of traveling. If the house doesn't have a ton of volume to start, and my stronger balls are reading too quick in practice, then yes I will definitely start with my Black Ops. So to answer your question in short, tes i have used my black ops on the fresh plenty of times.

Thanks Curt!

Last question. A buddy of mine purchased an X and loves it. Only thing he runs into is sometimes for game 3, and for his style, playing deep can be an issue for him. To generalize would you say the drift would be the ball change from the X to get that backend recovery or something else in the 900 lineup?

I'm about to punch both of those and I would say with the higher RG, higher diff and stronger cover, it would be a great ball to follow the X.

So our X definitely has a distinct smooth reaction and works awesome for those fresh medium patterns. No doubt when your friend has this trouble going left with the X, the Drift would be a perfect compliment. It has a higher RG and Higher Diff that would allow more angle on the backend. Great 1-2 punch! Please let me know if you need anything else or have any questions. I love to talk bowling!

Punch a Big pearl?

I'd rather have the Global R2X than whatever the Dream Big Pearl has. Seemed like the Big pearl was less midlane and continuation (since it was on the flippy side) compared to the regular Dream.

If I were to compare the Dream, Dream Big Pearl (DBP), and Inception Pearl (IP) I would have to say the IP reads much earlier than the DBP and in that respect it is similar to the original Dream.  However, I do find that the IP feels more flippy than the Dream.  That being said all 3 of them are flippy, but I felt the original Dream was smoother at the break.

If the Inception Pearl is flipper at the break point, count me out. My Dream is too much off the spot as is.

Sorry I am a little late to the discussion. I felt the Dream was one of the most angular balls I've thrown. The Dream Big Pearl was more midlane and not as flippy for me. Now on the Inception Pearl, so far I can comment that it seems just as angular as the Dream. So far I am a fan of the Inception Pearl.

S74R Pearl is the R2X cover?
