LINK review..
« on: February 19, 2009, 01:19:31 AM »
Very few balls have really been something different to me in the last few years,..mostly ho-hum cookie cutter hookers, there's been some good releases, but nothing that jumps off the page.
I have two LINKs, a Blue one, that's a pin over the bridge 5 x 4, no hole.
And a new Black and Red one I drilled last night (feb17) to get a little different look, it's a 5 x 4 also but with the pin about 3/4" above the grip center, 45* Mb, no hole. A couple weeks ago in a tournamnet I'm in the last 4 games of a 12 game qualifier, and I'm lost. The middles are playing really stupid, so I get out the Blue, move to first arrow, to shoot +22o over for the last four and actually get a check,..I was fried that I should have been there all day..
So I like the Blue one so much, I order a Red/Black. The Blue is almost too long some of the time,...I used the Red/Black last night right off the press, playing 7-8 all night (in a five man team league where the oil disappears in practice) 277-244-258, 779, with two pocket splits..I'm right of everybody, and can't miss...I really like the look these balls give me..I've had a few weaker balls, (avalanches) but they all hit like weak balls,..the LINKs are crazy strong through the pocket...amazing. jimensminger

Thanks for the info! Been waiting for someone to post some stuff about these balls. Nobody around here seems to use them.

Great shootin Jim, now all I need to do is convince you to go up in weight and throw a more manly #12 ball, you really would carry better, lol All joking aside good shooting my friend, nice recovery, now get the noodle to function a tad earlier and you might have had a "big check"

Steve-0,...I hate "givin in" to straighter is greater,..but in longer format tournaments when the transition is about every game and a half, sometimes ya just can't keep up with the angles and match-up when your trying to play in...going straighter lets ya stay more on top of the changes, and balls aren't quite as critical. A miss hit with a Link is a 4 pin,...with a S-75 it's a greek church, especially on old wood.  So far the Bounty is my favorite, but when the going get tough, it's hard not to use a ball lets you keep good angles, and carries too..je

Thanks for the post, Jim.  I've had my Link (orig color) for a few months but only have a few games on it mainly when practicing after the 1st squad.  The drilling is similar to your Blue and like yours I find it too long most of the time.  However, recently when everything else checked up...she would play nice and straight with the same carry you describe.  I almost wish it was drilled a bit stronger but a few more games, the track aread should 'wear' a bit.  Overall a great piece!  I have no fear when I hear "oh $#!&, the lane machine broke again"

scraps,..I hand rubbed mine a little with a 2000 pad, dry.  Just swirl it round and round lightly to take off the sheen, then a good wipe..lets it read a little sooner, ...but still keeps the length.

jbruno,..i'll try and do some pics but they're both pretty basic. i'll let ya know if i do some,..i'll have to e-mail them i wouldn't have a clue on posting..

no pics,..camera is at the lake..

At the lake?......or in it????  LOL

Seriously tho,  I have drilled a few Links and they play very nicely for the guys who like to play straighter on dryer lanes, and unlike most dry laners, it loses very little in carry to its higher performance brethren.

Nice shooting by the way, especially on old wood.

BWDavey, one of the best places to play old wood is from 10> out.  The problem is most try to use too strong a ball, The Link gives me that area and usually I'm there alone,..

DizzyFugu - Reporting from Germany...where in Germany..?  I bowled in several places in Germany,..I won the United States Armed Forces Europe Tournament in 1981 at Rhein Mein AFB, jime

Jim,

Is the Red/Black one a solid?

I just started a thread asking that question. Also there are now 4 Links. See my thread. Don't want to do the same discussion in 2 different threads. Just wanted your opinion. Thanks.
