Looking for a Benchmark Ball fot THS (9G/AMF)
« on: March 15, 2013, 12:11:05 PM »
Since my driller is new to 9G/AMF, I am shopping for a ball to be used on a fresh Main Street THS. The pattern plays slicker due to the laneboy's experimentation with the stripper strength and the late dressing of the lanes (hour prior). ME - 61 yo 201 book in one league - 14/15 mph with med/lesser revs likes to tweak the ball to the right. What would be your choice(s)?? Currently using a 716C @ 2K for fresh. Driller threw out Look or GMamba?? War Eagle looks interesting?? I will not post this in the AMF forum due to the tonguelashing from the forum police.

War eagle would be good(newer).   If you want a hybrid with the SRC core in it, then I would suggest the hybrid Mamba

Well, if your looking for something similar to the 716C, the War Eagle is perfect. Both the Green Mamba and The Look are stronger. Personally, I would look at something like a Sure Thing with a semi-aggressive drilling.

I agree with BiGtYmEr300. I drilled a Sure Thing 2 weeks ago and it makes
for a great benchmark ball.

Late dressing?  Could you elaborate on the effect of that?

By definition, Main street is 41' 19.3 ml pattern (med to low volume). Two weeks ago it played like a 55' pattern - pins were sliding everywhere on the deck out of range. Anyway this ball needs to be between a 912T & a Dirty Look. This week I left 2 9s & a stone 8 the last game with DL. I don't necessarily want a 716C clone, so any opinion will be appreciated. Leaning toward the Look even though I haven't fared well with higher RG balls in the past.

The Hybrid Mamba looks like a great piece. So does the Sure Thing.
I don't throw AMF or 900G anymore, but I keep up with the releases.

I had a Bank Pearl which was a good ball but didnt really make me jump at the chance to throw 900 global again. Then I really got tired of hearing about how great the Break core was and all the Eagles were so awesome. So i figured I wanted to see for myself. In comes the War Eagle...All I can say is what a great ball! Its nice and clean up front and great move on the back. I drilled mine 45x4x65 pin down and it is a very nice hard but controlled move. I have to play a bit right with it on fresh compared to my Soul but the move and carry are outstanding. Last night I started with the Soul, went game two and three with the War Eagle...237-236 with an open in each game, both opens were 7-9 splits..lol. Its a real nice ball. I would recommend highly. I would imagine with some surface it could handle some volume also.

If you can still find one, I would look for a Black Eagle. Best ball for a benchmark. Sure Thing or King Cobra or Cobra SE are also great choices to fit that spot as well.

Favorite or the King Cobra. Doesn't get more benchmark than those

+1 for the Black Eagle.  Many 250+ games with it.  Sad  :'( that 900 Global is phasing it out .  I just bought a second one off bowlersdeals.com

I've been on a good run over an 8 week period with the AMF Green Mamba. Reads the lane perfect on the fresh, and when the heads start to break down and you need to step left, it easily recovers from the deep angle.

Weaser, There are a ton of balls out there and there aren't to many people that throw the ball the same :) including myself. I don't think you will go wrong with all the choices they have said above this posting  ;) but what ever you decide I'M sure it will work just fine for you and your game   8)  900 Global / AMF have put a ton of great equipment out there for us to enjoy and to throw to help us not only improve our avg's & scores but to achieve becoming a better bowler. if your to ask me id say as long as you have 1 of these balls in your hand when your bowling you'll be just fine, I'm sure theres a chance you'll even raise your avg some.  I know there equipment has improved my game a lot over the last 5+ years and theres no turning back  ;D.  Thank Again 900GLOBAL,  Keep coming out with GREAT EQUIPMENT that keeps turning heads when they see them going down the lanes!!!  IM sure there will be a few more heads turning at Nationals this year as well  :P
If you want it, go after it and make it happen.  If you don't, you have no one to blame but yourself....or maybe your just not throwing the right equipment  :)
