My Global bag (well, more than one bag)
« on: November 20, 2018, 11:46:47 AM »
Hi friends!

I wanted to share with you how my lineup is going to look coming up here soon, give you some reasons why I've chosen what I've chosen and take any questions you may have.

Drum roll please....

From top to bottom

Sumo SE @ 2000, 4*20
Dream On remake @ 2000, 50*5*65
Dream On original @ 4000, 60*5*40
Covert Ops OOB, 50*5*65
Honey Badger Claw OOB, 50*5*65
Honey Badger OOB, 60*5*40
X2 OOB, 4*20
Boost Hybrid OOB, 5*65
Shadow Ops OOB, 45*4*30
After Dark Pearl OOB, 5*65

So, top end of the bag. Why no Continuum or Eon? I usually see very limited use out of big shells. I'd rather sand something that's faster response than use something that may not see the lane how I want to see it.

Covert and no Tactical? For me, I have a preconceived notion on how a Break core should roll and what I like to see out of it. The Covert fits that to a T.

Honey Badger is a no brainier, and the Claw looks like a Hyroad Nano, only better.

X2 because I love my X. It's an absolute tank.

Didn't like how squirrelly my pearl Boost was, no matter the surface.

Shadow Ops, because urethane Break.

After Dark Pearl because I loved my Link and want another motion like it. :)

What does your Global bag look like?

Recently went all in this summer and came away with this:

Badger
Honey Badger
Boost Blue/Black
After Dark Solid

Covers mostly what I see. Have contemplated a Shadow Ops as well.

How did I miss this message? I love the lineup, but you have a lot of high RG in there. Shadow Ops would be a good complement for when you need a little earlier read and smoother move.

I had previously been throwing urethane only and used a more old school "hit up" release which made everything hook and hook early. Been working on getting much cleaner at the bottom. I run into issues where I find shots dry enough to force me pretty deep even with the Boost or After Dark Solid and they just don't corner enough, switch to either Badger and I would have to move even further in way outside of my comfort zone.

Hoping the Shadow Ops would allow me to be little more square than where I tend to end up.

Question. Are the heads fried or just lots of bounce off of the friction?

If you have head oil, Shadow Ops. Talk to Juggernaut about it. :)

Like to throw urethane myself. Have the old “urethane release”, and reactives have never really been my friend.

Played the Shadow Ops almost exactly like my old school urethane ( Red Pearl Hammer, Black Hammer and Blue Nitro).  It was VERY similar to my old Nitro, with one important difference for me. The Shadow Ops seemed to have that little extra something going through the pins. Watched it kick out the tenpin time after time after time.

No, it’s not a “miracle ball” that will let you open up the shot and miss your target 4-5 boards and still strike, but it DID give me carry that I hadn’t had with my regular urethane stuff. Miss a board in and it still popped the ten out. Miss a board out, and it recovered just enough to carry the light swishers that my other ball just didn’t do on a regular basis.

Good ball, at least for me. I’ve already ordered a second as a backup for the future.
Learn to laugh, and love, and smile, cause we’re only here for a little while.

Well while we're doing Doom's corner lol I had a question. I'm a slower speed bowler not super old 44 but just blessed I guess and I'm thinking of trying out global. I generally prefer weaker balls.

My current bag is a Radical Ridiculous at box finish and a Quantum Black that I've added some surface too and polished. The ridiculous tends to be unresponsive in any oil at all but useable. The Quantum was too much for me OOB but has responded to some use and the surface change.

What would be a good ball for me either ball could be replaced at this point but replacing the quantum which is usually my first out of the bag would be primary.

Ok, let me research some Brunswick stuff here...

Which Ridiculous? There's like 4 lol.

As far as the Black Quantum, get a Claw. If you're looking for the ball motion you were trying to get from the Radical ball, go HB.

I'm telling everyone right here, you will see some killer things out of the Claw, and I put my stamp of approval on it.

Also, I'm 41. We're spring chickens, SIR!!

It's the original pearl on the ridiculous the blue one.

The Claw seems like a lot of ball for me. I struggled with the black Quantum due to this issue. It's made me a bit gun shy after my experiences with it. I have a friend that uses the honey badger as his main ball and that thing really moves lol

Ok, if the Claw seems like too much, then a Boost Solid with about 2000. Should be less than the Quantum, more than the Radical ball.

I used the Amazon hack to pick up a Tactical Ops ($74.98), Shadow Ops($88.40), and a Green/Blue Boost ($65.58) for $178.12. I had a $50 gift card to use.

Pearls have been looking amazing in my Wednesday night league which is essentially a second shift league from the afternoon senior league. I can't wait to put holes in something that's not all black or black/blue for once.

Shadow Ops is way more hook than I thought it would be. The only urethane that I threw a lot of games with was the original Storm Natural. It may not see my Wednesday night league as you need a lot of continuation to get the corners out, but it makes a good spareball as I got a pretty pour that keeps a nice silver patch of silver on my PAP so it's very visually pleasing going down the lane.

The Tactical Ops, I haven't drilled yet, but I did pop off a 669 with the Green/Blue Boost (181 first game). This will be my 3rd Boost. It's the perfect "low end" ball that's not really a low end ball. I love these Medium-High RG value balls as I still have a lot of "Hit Up" with my fingers in the ball and they respond so strong down the lane. They're more predictable than the Cyclones which I had 8 of over the years. It'll be something I'll throw a lot in league this year.

You really can't go wrong with a Boost on anything with defined friction.

I feel the same way about the Boost line that I do about the Ops line, just when you see less volume. You could do 3 of these with different layouts and surface preps and have a full bag. I could easily go Covert, Black, and Shadow and cover almost any league shot I see, or do a Boost at 2000, pin below fingers, Boost at 4000, pin 2 inches from pap, and shiny Boost pin up.

A fellow staffer who posts here actually asked me for a layout for a Boost. He's got slower ball speed and really rolls his wrist up behind it, so everything hooks for him. Told him to take a Boost, break the surface, pin 2 inches from the pap. Waiting to hear back.

The Blue/Black Hybrid boost I had when I bowled a season 2 handed went sideways. That one was an old school "label leverage" drill which was probably a 3 3/4" pin to PAP. The Christmas Boost I have is about a 6" pin to PAP with the pin about 2 1/2" above the bridge. Very long, but hits a ton. I only bring this in the bag if I'm going to a tournament that's advertising a short pattern or a pattern where the only look is on the gutter.

Green/Blue (hybrid?) that I have now came at 4000 grit. I hit it with a 3000 pad and didn't lose any angle off the spot. Pin over ring, 5" to my PAP. No x-hole because that's what's destroying the sport ;)

lol
