Break Point Pearl/Lunatic/Link
« on: August 15, 2009, 03:19:41 PM »
Getting ready to start the collegiate bowling season and thinking about drilling a BPP, Lunatic and Link. What balls would these most resemble? I was looking at the BPP and thought that could be similar to the Smash Zone, the Lunatic could be close to the Noize and the Link maybe like a Tropical Storm. Any info on similarities to other balls?

If you are bowling on the tougher collegiate patterns I don't know that I would go with the BPP or Lunatic.

The link is okay when things are on the shorter and lower volume patters but I would drill it weaker with more surface to get some control.

If you are looking for a good 1-2 punch I would get 2 Clutches.  As tunable as these balls are you can go with a pin up and pin down and get just about everything you could imagine...

Why do you think that they would not be good balls? They are not going to be my 1-2 punch, they are balls that i could turn to later in the day when they start to track out

Not sure about your game, but I am in between a cranker and tweener probably. The Link for me is my go to ball on PBA patterns. Its a little too lengthy on the fresh, but after about a game on the shorter patterns it is great. On Shark and Scorpion it takes about 2 and a half games before it starts reading the lanes. As far as the other 2 I am planning on adding them down the road but need money first.

I don't see why he would tell you not to use those on tougher patterns. The Liunatic being a weaker solid should be a great ball on those conditions, and the BPP will give you the length on patterns where the heads start to go faster like the Scorpion, but still should be enough in the back. I don't see any problems with those 3.

There isn't a problem with those three, I just think that if you are going to set up a three ball arsenal with 900 Global/AMF there is a better combination of balls.

I guess you could layout the BPP to be more controlled but that would kind of defeat the purpose of the ball unless you plan on using it on a THS.  Flatter patters need something more stable: Bounty Hunter or Clutch

If money is an issue I wouldn't consider the Link due to the limitations (core/cover) Get a ball that can be played with greater range of use: Maniac or Break Point maybe even an N'Code.

Here are a few 3 ball arsenals that I think would be great.

#1
Bounty Hunter
Clutch (Pin up)
Clutch (Pin down)

#2
Clutch (Pin up)
Clutch (Pin down)
Break Point

#3
Clutch
Break Point Pearl
Hype (ocean pearl) This ball looks like it will be a killer control ball.

Well here is the deal, these are not my first choices for balls. MY buddy who owns is ordering a package that includes one BPP, one Lunatic, and 3 Links. He is also recieving one free ball of choice from them. And the price of each ball comes out to about 50 bucks so i figured why not give them a chance. Not to sure about the BPP yet since I have a Smash Zone and they could be similar.

That sounds like an Expo deal.  900 had a great package with AMF stuff: Mega, Sideways, 2 Cluthces, and a Smoke...

If you can still get your hands on something like that I can assure you that you don't have anything in your bag that can compare.

All in all since I switched to AMF/900 in the middle of last season my scores went up and so did consistency.  They are making great products with a wide range of uses.  If you can get something for $50 bucks a ball do it.  You won't be dissapointed no matter what you buy.

I also went to pretty much 900 Global, They make some damn good equipment. You could easily cover pretty much any type of lane condition with them. In oil, break, bounty, bounty hunter, Mediums, Maniac, Break Pearl, Lunatic, Creature Pearl. Light oil, the link is hard to beat. In my experiences every one of these pieces hits very well carry is awsome, and covers take adjustments well. All in all you can't really go wrong with 900 Global. Good luck on your choices. Oh yeah, they make some pretty sharp looking balls (ha ha) to. Anyway good luck with whatever you go with.

I could go on and on all day about the reactions that I got from the balls listed.  we both know that the chances of the we bowl being similar are slim to none.

If you give me an idea of what type of conditions you bowl on, ball speed, rev rate and such I can help formulate some pretty good layouts.

If you were looking to set up a 4 ball 900 Global arsenal I would look at the following:

Bounty Hunter (or Bounty you can find some out there pretty cheap)
BreakPoint Pearl
Lunatic
Link

With those 4 you will cover everything as long as you are adaptable with your hand position.

If you wanted to go 3 balls I would leave out teh Bounty Hunter since you will most likely not see much heavy oil.

My 900 Global lineup for this collegiate season is this:

Bam
Creature Pearl
Lunatic
Break Point Pearl
Break S75
Bounty Hunter

Most guys on the team this year are going with the Break S75 as an all-around ball, a Lunatic, and either a Break Point or a Break Point Pearl (depending on what else they have).  Some guys are picking up a Bounty Hunter, and some guys are using the Break Point as their oil ball.

I think that as a 3 ball lineup, what you've got works fine, but in my experience, unless you only own 5 bowling balls max, leave the Link at home.  Its great when the lanes burn up, but last year at Tier 1 tournaments, I regretted taking up one of the 5 balls allowed with my Link.  If you can drill the Link slightly more aggressively than you normally would, it would probably be worth it.
