Nice way to open up fall league...
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:56:27 PM »
Another Break S75 story...

We opened up fall league tonight and saw, for the first time in ages, actual oil on the lanes. Quite a bit of it, actually. After struggling to a 182 the first game -- and sitting at 94 in the sixth in game two -- I got the last six strikes of game two for a 214, then went 9/ (4-pin), 10 in a row and then a ringing 10 on the fill ball for a 289 for the third game, which is my third-highest score ever. That means I got, at one point, 16 out of 17 strikes over games two and three.

So in the course of the last two months, I went from having never booked a 200 average, to finishing with averages of 205 and 215 in summer league, and recording my highest (297) and third-highest (289) scores of my life, all with the S75.

I'm also approaching 100 games on this ball with zero loss of reaction.

Great bowling there, Jess. All your success stories w/ the S75 kinda make me regret choosing the Break Pearl instead.

Has the ball needed an oil extraction yet?

Thanks...no extraction needed yet. I keep it cleaned and just keep throwing it.

As for the Break Pearl, I got one of those about the time I got my S75. While the Pearl is definitely a nice piece, I feel the S75 is much more versatile. The BP, in my experience, is a lot stronger in the midlane than advertised or than most other pearls. It reminds me of some of Lane #1's stronger pearl balls from years past, or maybe Storm's X-Factor with a leverage drill -- in other words, not a skid/snap piece. Mine is so strong, in fact, that there's not enough of a step down from the S75 to really justify carrying both in the bag. The only difference seems to be whatever additional length you can get from the surface.

Pretty much every 900G/AMF ball I've tried has exceeded its expected performance, which is not an easy feat.

Congratulations Jess. The pearl for me was too early with factory finish. $k with snake oil turned it into a great step dowm from my S-75,Break Point, or either Break solid

My Break Pearls were only just 'good' balls for the first 20 games or so. After the wear in period, I resurface them and repolish them on the spinner, and they have all become more versatile pieces. I have found the exact same experience with the Break Point Pearl.

My idea is that the balls are a little overpolished to match up with my natural game OOB, but my normal polishing procedure gets them just how I like them.

Give it a go, because if you love your S75 alot, having an easy step down might be just what the doctor ordered

Forgot to mention I already adjusted the surface on the Break Pearl. Whereas I bought my S75 new, my BP was used when I got it, so in the course of plugging and redrilling, I took it up to 2000 plus Reaction Plus.

I'm thinking 4000 plus Storm ReactaShine may be the way to go. Part of the issue with my BP is that it has a double-thumb type drilling on it. The pin is in a weaker position (above bridge) but the MB has been cratered.

Absolute I have to agree with your theory on global equipment, they do seem like they have a break in period. I also take their polish off and do my own routine. It's nice to know that I am not the only one who observes that.

I never bowl well with any factory polished ball, they are always to over-under for me. I take it home, take it to a grit i like, and then polish the ball up with Snake oil, and then the ball is a whole different animal. I hate factory polish.
