Title: No love for the Maniac??
Post by: Lillen on April 13, 2010, 10:32:25 PM
With just 7 reviews here on BR I wonder if the ball is no good or if it's just overlooked?

If you have one, can you share your thoughts on the matter..

Thanks // Lillen

For me the ball has been my go to ball when nothing else will work (unless dry). With my lack of ball speed II took mine to k + polish before i eeen put holes in it. For me it gets easy length with a nice arcing move on the back. It is drilled  x  / pin up (pics in link in signature)

i have 2 of them and think it's a good ball. great performance for the buck. clears the heads with ease and has a readable arcing motion in the back. first one is drilled 5x5 box surface (1000 abralon i think). helps me on fresh sport patterns when backends fly. second one is drilled rico, took the surface to 4000 and a good amount of black magic. helps me when i have over/under and encounter wet/dry patterns. all in all a great ball that compliments the lunatic very well. i see very few of them in my area, but the people that use it are very happy with the ball and mostly use it as their go-to ball.

another ball by the Global family that stayed under the radar. One of the best THS balls around, smooth rolling, consistent break point and shape. One of those ho-hum balls that lull you to sleep because it does over react or go nuts on the back end.It didn't get the "buzz" so it was ignored by those who never saw it in action. Several in our center, three in my house alone being used. A well kept secret because it didn't snap hook or hook the lane.

As near as I can tell, the main "problem" with the Maniac was it didn't go 55 feet and make a sharp turn to the pocket. Many people regard that as a prerequisite before they will buy a ball, whether it be a light oil ball or a heavy oil ball.

It was a true benchmark type of ball, fairly rolly and even arcing. That is the curse of death, as far as balls are concerned, especially when it doesn't cover every board on a lane.

I have one drilled pin up, 5 x 3, weight hole at P2 location.  Ball was very smooth.  It makes a great benchmark ball.  Dulled down, it will handle a good amount of oil, probably medium-heavy.  Would be great for PBA/sport patterns, as the ball didn't flip as soon as it hit friction.

Mine was able to cover a large amount of boards, however without the uncontrollable snap off of the friction. As a matter of fact, it was able to cover too many boards. Until I took the surface up to 4000 with some polish, was I able to play a THS with it. This ball was money on PBA shots! Predictable and controllable without sacrificing the backend reaction and continuation through the pin deck.

Thanks again for all the info..

I can get my hands on a Maniac for a good price (here in Sweden anyway),

14.1 lbs  2.25 top weight  3-4" Pin and that's sort of the reason I posted

this thread..

Sweet ball!  Sweden?  Aren't most countries out of the US shoot on mostly dry?  Please, do not take that as disrespectful.  It was not intended that way.

Track_Fanatic, no worries it wasn''t disrespectful..

I think we play mainly Medium oil patterns here in Sweden, with some exceptions..
Where I play there''s Kegel''s "Middle Road" on the lanes and in the playoffs in our National League some houses were putting down a pattern called "Athens"..

http://www.2009wwc.com/pdf/wtbaAthens.pdf

The houses here can put down whatever oil pattern they want..

One weekend you could be playing on let say "Beaten Path" and the next weekend it could be a short oil pattern..

So I ordered the Maniac yesterday and it was delievered to my work today..

Went to the pro shop after work, put a light coat of Snake Oil on the ball and got it drilled 40 x 4 3/4 x 45

X-hole just below my PAP..

Rolled it tonight and it''s a nice rolling ball..

Me likes..
