Cores
« on: March 06, 2011, 10:17:18 AM »

I'm counting about 15 different cores since 900G and AMF started putting out equipment.

Quite a few of those cores are used in 1 or 2 balls (ie: Solid and Pearl versions) and then we see something new.

Examples:

Maniac:  one release

Lunatic:  one release

Long Shot & Favorite:  solid & pearl

Profit:  solid & pearl

Bank:  solid & pearl

Link: single release in multiple colors

Missing Link:  single release in multiple colors

Bounty:  Bounty and then Bounty Hunters (solid and pearl)

Clutch:  solid and pearl

Double Clutch:  solid and pearl

Hype: multiple colors, and urethane

The only cores that we've seen used multiple times are the Break core (s70, pearl, s75, Break Out, The Eagle) - and also modified version in the Break Point line (solid and pearl) - and the "Code" core that we've seen in the Code and modified versions in the N'Code, Sideways, and "Mega" line.

Many people knock the other companies for reusing the same core designs for an extended period of time.  Even though they are a smaller company, it just seems like 900G is constantly creating new stuff.....yet you never hear anybody give them credit for it.

Will we continue to see new core designs with each new release, or at some point will we see some of the older cores reintroduced?  If not, is there a reason?

I don't know if coming out with new cores for every ball or every other ball is such a good thing. I like to see a core used in a few balls, it shows stability and effectiveness in the core's design. Plus I can't buy a ball all that often and sometimes I miss out on good designs because I had to wait too long...

Now don't get me wrong, what other companies have done is just plain wrong in too many ways. Such as the black widow line, that was ridiculous. No core should be used that many times. But theres only so much you can do with one core, before the motion you see from it on the lane with the "new" coverstock is not enough to separate it from it's previous releases.

For the most part I like what Global has done, but it always makes me wonder when they discontinue cores too quickly. I know they want to remain on the cutting edge and they will, because most people that go Global like Global. Just doesn't always give me the warm and cozy feeling inside when I think about the companies trust in their core designs.  THERES MY .02, if it's even worth that...

Back in my days at the old C300 the main idea for core design was to have a core that offers many options with the same basic design.  Being able to have varience to build different motions was a big factor in chosing the correct core.  So I don't see a huge issue with any company reusing cores.  The old saying goes if it's not broken not need to fix it.

The replies on here are the MINORITY! Whenever the old Elite core would show up in a Crunch Time or Slash for example everyone would come on here and bash the fact that the core was used again and nothing new was ready.
