Polish a Bounty Hunter?
« on: February 22, 2010, 12:40:19 PM »
I have a Bounty Hunter and really like it so long as there is oil.

But, I have the opportunity to pick up a second one.  I would like to polish it up quite a bit and see what reaction I would get.

so, my question is, has anyone polished up a Bounty Hunter?  If so, what kind of reaction did you get?  Any other information would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Scott

I have mine at 4000w/Snake Oil.  I get good length and a nice strong arc on the backend.  No squirt in mine on the backend, still get the nice recovery with an added length to it.

i tried polishing mine over oob finish it was very squirty,  then i took the cover down to 1000 ab, then polished it with black magic  this combo really did the trick, and thats where this ball seems to be at its best

Scott, I am just thinking would you really want to polish the BH? Do you really want to take the ball and make it something it's not meant to be?

Would the reaction of a polished BH be that much different than just going to the BHP? I am just asking because I would like to know the difference between using a polished BH and the BHP on the same lane condition.

Has anyone tried this.

JVan19,

One of the reasons for asking the question was that I bought a Bounty Hunter Pearl to do exactly what you suggest.  But, at least for me, the Bounty Hunter Pearl was night and day different than my Bounty Hunter.  In fact, I did not find a condition that I could confidently throw the BHP on.  If there was much oil at all, it skated.  If there was much dry at all, it hooked immediately.  If it was a bit wet/dry (a condition it ought to have shined on) it was very unpredictable and frustrating.

I was hoping to get more length with a very similar roll as my Bounty Hunter but that is not what I got.  That is why I got to thinking that maybe some polish on this second Bounty Hunter might give me the look I was seeking.  But, as you suggest, trying to make a ball do something it wasn't designed to do is often not a wise thing either.  Thus, I came to BallReview folks to give me some opinions.  And, as always, I have gotten some very good feedback.

i have both and my solid is 1000ab and polished  with black magic,  my pearl is with same drill and it still goes longer they really compliment each other, i dont se any burn out of the  solid either, now that being said if i threw with  18, 20 mph i could leave the solid in oob

i personally didnt have success with trying to polish the BH, got squirty, but it was heavy polish. maybe lite sheen was the answer, oob is what i stuck with and it works great on oil like you said. As for the BHP, i did get over/under as some suggest as well, but i think oob was just way to shiny. I put ressurection on it, 800 grit sheen, and shot 300 with it the next week.  For me its has a much more consistent reaction with no polish.

Heck, why not, you can always change the surface if you don't like the first results Most balls have two or three different surfaces that they will work well with for each bowler - and there is nothing easier to change than surface.

Yes all the time...

We take the ball down to  a 500 A Pad, then a 1000 a Pad, and then polish...

Excellent for med. - med. heavy oil patterns..

How is the one you have drilled?  Are you planning on using the same drilling, but with a different surface prep?
