I went to purchase one, found out it's discontinued. Any suggestions for a ball like this from 900 Global, or another company? This ball intrigued me because they advertised it as "smooth off the spot." I recently bought a Train, my first 900 ball, and wanted to try another.

Wisdom is smooth off the spot, along with the hybrid hooks. Sure Thing is going to be stronger OOB, but still smooth. Depends on how much oil you're seeing.

I think you have a few basic choices:
1. The Blue/Yellow Hybrid Hook is a solid/pearl combo. You could drill it to be a little smoother and/or slightly modify the surface (1000-1500 grit sanding + polish).
2. Columbia makes an equivalent ball, the Freeze. They now make a Solid and Hybrid, in addition to the original pearl, like the Hook series. They are of a similar quality. You can try a Freeze Solid.
3. Roto-Grip makes the solid Shout. It is also a very smooth, solid, meant for medium-light oil.
4. Motiv makes the Ascent Solid. Its stock surface is a little rough (1000 grit) but it is a similar ball meant for medium-light oil. A little dose of polish and you're back with smooth reacting solid.
If you fixed on 900Global, option #1 is your safest bet. Your driller can manipulate the drilling.
If you not fixed on 900G, then I'd go with the Freeze solid. Similar RG and differential and the ball was designed with a similar intent to the solid Hook.

Many are listed on Ebay.

I missed the boat on this ball. Demo'd it and liked it but never got around to ordering one. Looks like I'll have to go the eBay route.

Unfortunately, 2 of them are x-outs. But you can check the specs on one and its not too bad.

Thanks for the input guys. I called 900 Global & they suggested the Blue-Yellow Hybrid. My pro shop guy will punch it up for me on Monday, & I'll post a review after some practice.

This ball packs a good punch. Great hit for a so called entry level reactive. The box finish is pretty flippy, but if you are rolling it well, no problem at all. This is a good ball for your typical house shots.

DrBob,
I am looking to punching up my Pink Black Hybrid, and I am thinking of getting a Black Pearl to mimic a reaction I had with an AMF Scamp. Great lineup for the THS.

I'm quickly becoming a fan of 900G. I'm not one of those guys who buys a bunch of balls every year, but glad I got a Train & B/Y Hybrid.

Bob if you have the cash you should try the look its great very strong but predictable. I have just changed over to global myself and the train was the ball that made me switch sence buying the train I have added the look another train drilled differently and will be adding a freight train tonight cant wait to throw it.

Thanks. I have been reading reviews on that ball, maybe I'll punch one up for Reno/USBC.

Hey, 792 with the Blue/Yellow Hook last night. Started game 1 with a swishing 7/10, then rolled the next 20 in a row, missed a 10 pin, then 246, with another missed 10 pin (dammit).
Loving 900 Global !
