Replacement for my “baby” Link? Doom?
« on: May 01, 2019, 08:08:29 AM »
Just a quick question.

I need to soon replace my much loved Link. It’s about at the end of its life and will only take one more resurface. Wood lanes and very poor wood lanes at that, to blame.

Is the After Dark about the best and closest to it and is it the solid or pearl that will give me the closest match up.

Thanks all.

Well, After Dark isn't going to give you a Link shape. It's going to be smoother but will still get downlane, so it will keep you a bit right of where you would be with the Link.

However, the Boost line gives you that Link shape, only is stronger.

So After Dark will keep the break point more in front of you, Boost will allow you to open up your angles more. imo, Link fits right between them.

Thanks Doom, my Link is my dry lane go to ball but more importantly it is my spare ball. I kind of flat release it with almost zero revs it just skids beautifully. It stays dead straight even on the old battered wood lanes we play on. I do use it “roll” across at the 4 or 7 as it gives me more miss room but I can go straight too.

I don’t mind playing anywhere on the lane so which would you recommend saying that the spare part of the equation is more important to keep?  I feel the AD pearl but now you’ve mentioned the Boost, I’m a little unsure.

Thanks again.

If you like the control of the Link, then the After Dark for sure.

Thanks again.

My Link and Honey Badger have been two exceptional balls and no doubt the After Dark will be too. Just more than a little sad that it will be in place of my prized Link.

You have a good 1 2 punch there!

Just wish I was still a good enough bowler to get the best out of them. :o

Mind you for me now it’s more the fun of just getting out there and the enjoyment of having some great reacting equipment in my hands. Would have loved to have been able to get that Honey Badger in my hands 10 years ago when I could actually split boards and not split the arrows like now. Now that would have been FUN.

I had a Clutch Pearl that long ago and it's still fun to throw!

One last question, if you don’t mind.

I have my Link drilled 5 x 4 pin is above ring and cg about half an inch from centre of grip. Couldn’t really give you a Dual angle read from it as I had it drilled 12 years ago.

Can you give me an idea of what drill angles I should be looking for if I go for the AD pearl. I know my pro shop guy will be spot on but you have soooo much experience with these great pieces.

Thanks yet again.

I'd go 4.5*40, put the CG anywhere.

It really helps having a staffer as dedicated to your company as you are. Some just drop a quick review and that’s it.

I think everyone on the Global section really appreciates what you do for them, I know I do.

You’re a major asset to the 900 Global brand. I hope the realise that. Keep it up.

Honestly, it's my honor and privilege to be able to help not only my brand, but other bowlers as well. I've known for almost 12 years that I've had the best equipment in my hands. Now I just help you get the most out of yours.
