Bank Pearl Review 12/28/2010
Pre-drill specs: 15 lbs 3 oz 3-¼ oz top, 3-3.5†pin Post drill specs: 14 lbs 14 ½ oz net weight, 1/2oz pos side, ¼ oz finger, 1 oz top. Layout: 4-¼†pin to pap x 5-1/2†mb to pap with 2†pin buffer x-hole between p2 & p3, 25/32 x 2-¾†deep http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh189/brinkley2223/000_2389.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh189/brinkley2223/000_2390.jpg Core Number: SRC Asymmetric #15 - 2.48 .054 .020 Cover: S-74 Reactive Pearl Beginning alignment: Feet 36, set down 22, arrows 13, break point 9
THS (tweaked ), newly screened wood lanes with out of bounds at 3 on both sides, medium to medium heavy oil 41 ft buff. Freshly run shot for league play, very clean back ends.
This house traditionally has a very high friction ratio, prior to the screening 2 weeks ago I threw a Hype Pearl, length was need which the higher rg core provided with plenty of recovery. Since the screening the shot has become more playable from different lines affording more ball choices.
The Bank Pearl has the aesthetic appeal for certain, looking like the older Nighthawk Pearl, but that is where the similarities end. The Bank Pearl clears the heads with ease, mine as drilled provided plenty of lope the first 30-35 feet, as it began to come off the buff it seems to catch another gear, revs up and the first sniff of the dry begins the “take off†a very strong move left. I had a few errant shots that went wide of initial target line getting to the dry a little too soon, expecting it to “boomer rang†though the face, I was surprised it didn’t, high flush tripping the 4 pin on 2 occasions. Light hits carried especially well, continuous as they come at the break point, never bled enough energy to think about slowing down . As the night wore on I only made one minor adjustment, third game a one and one more left The S-74 cover is strong enough to recover from most anywhere without going “nutsâ€, the control is what impressed me the most. Strong enough to turn the corner from most any angle, yet under utmost control. The Core cover match is excellent, it will rival any pearl IMO, as strong as a pearl needs to be for league bowlers, inviting to watch and rewarding to throw !!!
A well done to the R & D guys in San Antonio, excellent ball not only does it have plenty of shelf appeal it has more than enough angularity, hook and scoring capabilities for the league bowler to the high end tournament bowler!!

Have you ever thrown a mutant cell pearl? If so how does the two compare? I'm really leaning toward the bank pearl, but a freind has a mutant cell pearl I can throw pretty good. I have a break out and love it, but I'm alittle afraid of the SRC. I've heard good and bad about it. A honest opinion would be appreciated.

Steve, I would like to hear your thoughts on the ball after you had 25 - 30 games on it. I feel, all balls are pretty aggresive out of the box but after 25 games or so they mellow out. Plus, you get the opportunity to use it on more conditions.

I have both drilled almost identically. I would say the biggest difference is the BankPearl is slightly earlier and stronger overall, with better continuation than the MCP. Overall I prefer the Bank Pearl. I believe the majority feel the MCP was a disappointment.
Hope this helps,
Joe

I'd be glad to offer more feed back at the moment it has about 12 games on it, 6 in league and the other in practice sessions. Pretty fond of it so far 680, 708 with it so far in league play. I've never thrown a MCP, have seen a few go down lane, I really do think the MCP has the sharpness off the spot nor the continuation the BP has.

I haven't seen a Bank Pearl yet, other than on TV, but I find it hard to believe anyone would consider the Mutant Cell Pearl a flop. I've seen a ton of the Cell line, and the MCP is easily the second best ball only behind the original Cell.

Not exactly a flop, but I think disappointment is appropriate. That is my opinion after drilling and throwing one, and observing many. I don't believe its nearly as versatile as the Anarchy, and not as good as the MC was. It's ok, its just doesn't seem to do anything especially well. There also seem to be plenty of people trying to get rid of them, including special sales over the holidays by the e-tailers and Roto is likely announce its replacement in days.
In my opinion, the Cell Pearl was a much better ball.
That being said, I'm sure some people will match up with the MCP well, Some people even liked the AMF XS!
I found the Bank Pearl to be much more versatile, predictable and forgiving, with better continuation thru the rack. And that's coming from a big Storm/Roto fan.

Mine came in Friday. I'm just trying to figure out what layout to put on it. On a side note when i called in the order for the shop today they informed me my Raw Profit came in and i'll get it tomorrow.
