Some Thoughts About the Respectttt
« on: January 16, 2019, 10:29:57 AM »
I was gifted a Respect. It had like 3 games on it, and the original owner was like, "Too over under, driving me insane, here n00dlejester - have it!" So, I plugged it and redrilled it.

The layout is something like 40 x 4 x 40 - it puts the pin in my ring finger.

At box surface, the ball was sooooooooo wiggly downlane. It looked good for half a game, then didn't know what it wanted to do no matter where I played on the lane. Then it kind of woke up while practicing after league.

Then last night, I hit it with a 2k pad on a spinner. I didn't press hard, and only spun it about 20 seconds on 4 sides. This is our sport shot league, and we bowled on the 37' Melbourne pattern. I used the Respect all 3 games and had one hell of a look. It was much more continuous, and predictable!

Has anybody else had trouble with the shiny OOB surface of their respect? What surfaces work well on the Respect? I'm really curious as to others' experiences with this ball. This is the hardest hitting ball I've owned since the IQ Tour Fusion and I want to maximize my use of this ball.

I didn't like my Respect out of the box, but loved it with an abralon pad adjustment. Fresh 2000 was my favorite surface on it.
League: Pitch Purple, Destiny Magenta

Try 3000 if 2000 is too early. It's a very responsive cover and needs the factory shine knocked off. My original drove me nuts OOB.

Duly noted, guys. Thanks so much for the feedback! Right now, 2k is doing pretty good! Nothing too early, and still lots of side-to-side motion.

Has anybody tried 4k?

Has anybody tried 4k?

I feel like that would be too close to box, reaction wise. But give it a shot!

Yeah man, definitely will! I might try a 500/4000 job if the 2k proves too early on not-37-feet-but-tons-of-volume patterns.

Agreed, I didn't love my Respect with the 15k and polish so I touched mine with 15k and it definitely rolled more consistent. I also did that with my Black Ops. If I need a little more push I will take them to 3k or 4k. I did like the Drift at 15k with polish though. More and more I am going with breaking the cover with whatever the OOB finish is.

I was used to storm finishing processes already. And I'm one that doesn't shoot well until the ball is extremely tracked up... I knew what I was doing when I got the respect I knew it would take time, however I didn't realize the ball would act like a super cover and last forever 😂😂

bill, glad to hear. I know and see several bowlers with og Respects still using them. Also a handful of others that are happy for the re-release Respect. I'm not a big fan of the polished solids or hybrids. The only exceptions being the Dark Matter and Drift. I don't usually have a problem with the 15k polish covers on pearls for the most part. A matter of fact the Respect Pearl and Truth Pearl were 2 of my favorites. I guess some cores and covers just don't match up to all bowlers.

I've rolled 5 games with the Respect so far at 2k - it rolls real nice! It seems to stop at the breakpoint, which is wild to watch. I might try it with 1500, just to see if it can become even more rolly.

Everything about the Drift I wasn't supposed to like. 1500 polished, high RG core. I ended up loving it. When I have defined friction to throw it to, it's insane. That ball, and the X, I'll always keep in the bag. They're polar opposites and both hit like a bomb.

Just drilled up my re-Respect. Really love that ball. Rolls very nice, makes a turn at the breakpoint but doesn't go crazy. Thanks doom (as usual) for the fantastic layout suggestions. Currently loving my rotation of Respect, Claw (also Doom's layout) and X2!
