900 Global Hook vs AMF Code, same ball?
« on: November 19, 2012, 03:16:00 PM »
I have seen someone(here?) state that the newer Global Hook has the same core as the AMF CODE.

Are they essentially the same ball or is the Hook a lot weaker with it's S43 rating coverstock?  To my eyes the AMF code looks like a stronger coverstock.  However the Hybrid on the Hooks looks almost as strong

That is a weaker slower response coverstock the S43, wasn't the AMF CODE stronger tires?

I didn't say it but after taking a look on bowlingballvault.com and 900 Global's website. I would have to say the 900 Global Hook has a very similar core design to that of the AMF Code, if they are exactly the same is left up to speculation. Well 900 Global does pour AMF300 so it wouldn't be too out of the ordinary for them to reuse a popular core in a future release. Anyway as far was the coverstock goes, I'd say that the Code definitely had a stronger coverstock than the current 900 Global Hook. If you look in the archive section of AMF300's web page you'll see that the Code had a coverstock rating of F-65.

2 very different balls, only similarity is the general shape of the core.

Code: RG - 2.47, Coverstock strength - F65 (short, fat core for more arc and roll)

Hook: RG - 2.55, Coverstock strength - F43 (Taller and thinner core for more length and flip)

The Hook series is a balls aimed at Entry level, adjusted core densities and S-40 covers with different surfaces based from Past AMF & Columbia balls like the Code and Phoenix.
