Title: what is missing from 900 global?
Post by: rymacatthedisco on March 16, 2009, 08:04:02 AM
alright so this is just my observation since ive been throwing 900 global for about 2 months now. I own the break solid, s75, bounty, link, awakening right now. i have thrown the break pearl for about 15 games (not for me).

What i am noticing and what i have talked about to the man who writes the reviews in BTM is that all the balls seem to read the point the same, but at different places. When he told me this i thought about it and i realized he was totally correct. everything in the 900 global family reads the point very nicely and very controlable. there isnt a ball in the lineup that i have found to "flip" and go left hard off the spot. even the break pearl, it is a very rolly pearl in my eyes and in my hands. check my stats in my profile.

What i feel is missing is a ball that allows you to get left on the burn and blown open patterns and make the corner hard enough to get the corners out consistently. i bowled the collegiate singles this weekend and when forced to move left around 4th and 5th arrow i had to swtich to a hammer hazard because i couldnt get the corners out consistently because of the smoothness off the spot.

Again, this is all just my thoughts and what i am seeing. I love my 900 global stuff and cant wait to add more stuff to my arsenal. I just want to see if others think the same

Older, disco'd: Heist solid at 4000ab with a slight shine.  Mine is more skid snappy than the Break pearl when it hits a dry spot on the back it's almost uncontrollable.  I need some carrydown to keep in line.

I'd imagine the Heist pearl can do the same although it's in a limited release.

Also maybe the Villain or Villain pearl depending on surface or layout prep.

Otherwise I match up well with them because most of the equipment rolls early and is controllably smooth, so yeah I'll agree they could use a ball like this in their line up.

My Creature flips and goes left hard off the spot.

see im not seeing that with the line up. which again i dont mind what so ever, but i read all these posts about balls going left and what not and i just dont see it. I am just using my normal drills that i have used on a lot of other equipment, pin over ring or middle cg kicked a little and the mb near the thumb.

like i said i dont mind the reactions i am getting they are amazingly consistent and the carry is great, just trying to find something that i can get deep with and get down the lane and then get it to wheel off the spot

To be honest my Break solid that's supposedly at 2000ab flips harder than my Break pearl does.  As the shine wore off the ball became more controllable but that's not to say it's not strong off the spot.

Then again not many people will be able to use any of the Breaks in the burn or on a blown open pattern unless a serious cover adjustment was done, or said person has a cannon for an arm.

But you're right Jeff these balls can do that.

Try a different pattern. Kick the cg a little further right and add a weight hole(flare increasing) and try that.

Down and right from your thumb hole.

I've seen them all and I still think the Black Break is the most underused and under the radar ball on the market.  I'm going to hoard a case of these just so I can have them for years to come.  The line is getting better you have to remember they only started 2 years ago (i think).  I would consider some different drills on some other stuff because if they are drilled to strong they do tend to become smoother than normal.

What 900G is missing are "soaker" coverstocks.  Except of the Break I believe there are no "soaker" covers.  I'd think about them more seriously if they had "soaker" covers.  Thing and Thing Returns were a couple of my favs of all time.

I think S75 has 'soaker' - btw I love my S75, and I think they got the surface just right (at least for the conditions I see), 600 then compound.

S75 then.....not interested in 900G because of the non-use of "soaker" type cover that Phil was so good at developing.

You will also find the Bounty is "soaker" I think.

If I thought 900G was missing anything it is a solid that reads early and is real arcy and even.  but that hole (for me) is made up for with the Mega Friction.

To Ryan,  I find the Creatures quite skid flippy and the Break Pearl give me a similar look on heavier volumes.

I have a Thing NIB, but it’s 14lbs and I live in England, UK, so shipping it to you will be very very expansive….. so can’t help you.

If the Thing and Thing Returns were the soaker coverstocks, then what was the Thing Lives? My Thing Lives is just too aggressive for our house shot.

Nevermind it's the Soaker X.

Kong 69...the Break Point is a more angular than the Break and definitely handles more oil.  My local house replaced their lane machine with an older Kegel which is putting down a longer pattern with slightly more volume.  Where my Break used to score relentlessly, now barely reaches the nose...my new Break Point is the answer.  I tried the Bounty but it just wasn't for me.  Will do a review on the Break Point after a few more games.  Rolled 705 first night out.
