replacement for black eagle
« on: January 18, 2014, 07:19:58 PM »
I do not bowl that much anymore due to a few issues so my arsenal is small.  My main ball (the black eagle) has cracked and I am wondering what ball (any brand) would be a good replacement for it.  Thanks for any replies.

I would suggest the Roto Grip Asylum. I'm curious though about the 'cracking'. Where did it crack?

I used it Monday in league and today I noticed that it was cracked.  It cracked from the center of the middle finger up through the pin and approx 2/3's around the ball.  The pin is approx 1 1/2" up from the bridge of the fingers.  I use vacuum grips.  Again thanks for the replies.

Wow. I feel for you bud.   I like their equipment but the cracking issue is well known at least for me anyway. I'm sure I will get flamed on this but i don't care. I know they say it can happen to any manufacturer but for me I've had 7 crack similar to that from that plant from 900 Global and AMF. I've thrown all the other major brands and have NEVER had a cracking problem.  They need to thicken the shell to that of what other manufacturers thickness.  I've been going to the same shop for over 20 years too so it has NOTHING to do with them and their drilling.   Yeah, stupid me for keeping on buying them but some were replacements. I was even told by a prior product manager that they had done testing on thinner shells and claim that it has no effect on cracking. I bought into that as I wanted to believe so badly that it has nothing to do with thickness but I totally disagree.

Thanks for your response.  Back when I was bowling more I had and tried many bowling balls and all of the different manufacturers.  I have had 3 balls crack - Lane 1, amf and now global 900 - I do not know if it manufacturer or cover thickness??? - I am not that knowledgable of the ball making process.  Thanks again for your reply.

Depending on how old your lane #1 ball is, all of them were poured out of that plant.   I had tried lane #1 back when they first came out.  The one I had was poured by The big B.  But I know they went to 900 global but don't recall when.
