Wolverine Dark Moss
« on: July 24, 2022, 11:06:07 AM »
The Wolverine Dark Moss is the newest version of the Wolverine. This ball has the same cover and core that the Wolverine originally had. This ball comes at a 4K-fast this time instead of the 1500 grit polish. I found that this ball is going to give you good length and pick up a couple feet sooner compared to the original Wolverine. If you have a higher rev rate you would be able to use this on a variety of patterns and on a somewhat fresh house shot also. If you were a fan of the original Wolverine you are going to love this ball.

The Wolverine Dark Moss replaces the Wolverine in the 700 Series line from 900 Global. This ball features the same S70 Pearl cover and Lacerate 2.0 core. The only real difference between the Dark Moss and original Wolverine besides the color is the surface finish of these two balls. Dark Moss comes at the new Fast 4K compared to 1500 polished on the original. I drilled mine 5.5 x 5 x 5 which is similar to the original Wolverine for the first two numbers but I went with a bigger pin buffer to give me something that is longer down lane and response slower to the friction. After throwing this ball for while it does exactly what I wanted it to be in my bag, which was a step down from the original. If you were a fan of the original Wolverine and were sad to see it get banned from USBC National tournaments, the Dark Moss will be the perfect ball to replace it with.

900 Global Wolverine Dark Moss
Layout: 50 x 6 x 55
Finish: 4k FAST
Lane types and pattern types: HPL lane panels with 48ft THS pattern and SPL panels with 46ft THS
Comparing the new Dark Moss to the Original Wolverine, I first prepped the OG Wolverine with factory 4K FAST as per instruction from stormbowling.com, to make sure I can compare them ball to ball, surface to surface and layout to layout. Using the identical layout, surface and practice time, the Dark Moss did not disappoint me, S70 pearl coverstock with the core made from two different cores, using the bottom portion of the BADGER core and top portion of the HONEY BADGER core resulted in the best of both worlds with this core contraction. The Lacerate 2.0 core really helps with direction changes on any type of lane pattern, surfaces and environments. I did notice that the Dark Moss moved an inch or two earlier than the Blue Wolverine, and it may be because of the coloring in the 2 different Wolverines is my theory. But overall the Dark Moss performed the same as the OG Wolverine overall. For those that LOVED the IQ Tour Emerald, you will be happy with this Wolverine. I enjoyed using this ball in practice on two different THS, and also about 30 minutes on Don Carter pattern, when other lefties were using urethane and they were having fits from earlier urethane movement or no recovery urethane motion, I was able to move a few boards right inside of them and open up the angle a little more towards and at the gutter. Medium strength overall, but it BIT through the pins like it was biting through bones, just like a Wolverine would do.

900 Global Wolverine Dark Moss review by Lonnie Pemberton

Core: Lacerate 2.0
Cover: S70 Pearl
Finish: 4k fast
RG: 2.54 (14# ball)
Diff: 0.052 (14# ball)

Right-Handed Tweener
Speed: 12-13 mph
Rev Rate: 315
PAP: 4 7/8 Right 3/8 Up

Ball Layout: Pin over Ring 5 Pin to Pap 2” Pin Buffer

As a direct replacement for the original Wolverine, 900 global has released the Wolverine Dark Moss to it's 700 series line of balls. The Dark Moss also features the Lacerate 2.0 core wrapped in the S70 Pearl cover, but this time finished at it's 4k fast surface.

Compared to other balls at its price point I would say the Wolverine Dark Moss is as strong as it gets. Its not going to necessarily be  snappy as the big core gives you some earlier motion but it is very continuous. Its particularly effective navigating transition on heavier volumes. Sometimes you can get trapped when your big solids push you left and want to slow down and it's 10 pin city. Since you're very often taking a big step down in over all hook to get into a quicker ball to create more angle you sometimes get pushed into the over-under where your quick ball can't be a little in and your big ball can't get a little right. This is the ideal environment for the wolverine.

The usefulness of the Dark Moss reminds me of the Black Ops. It was a clean cover ball that you could throw on conditions where you would normally expect to need surface. It's very useful to me on our high volume 43 foot house pattern because it's strong enough to handle all the volume of oil, but the heads can sometimes go away pretty quickly. The Wolverine Dark Moss not only slows the fronts burning up but it's still clean enough to get it through once they start.

I would definitely recommend this ball for bowlers who struggle a bit more low ball speed. It makes a great option as a big ball for guys who have trouble getting the big solids down-lane.

Wolverine Dark Moss
Cover: Pearl Cover S70
Weight Block: Symmetrical Weightblock
Color: Dark Moss
Review:
If you had the opportunity to throw the original Wolverine, you’re going to love the same consistency that the Dark Moss brings. With the proven versatility of the S70 Pearl cover stock combined with the new 4K Fast finish the Dark Moss offers the same shape as the original Wolverine. Personally, I left this ball at the 4K Fast finish but plan on drilling another one and trying some surface changes on it. The ball offers a great mid lane roll with plenty of backend pop. If you are looking for a good league ball I would highly recommend this one. Not only does the ball perform great on all conditions but the emerald color really stands out on the lane. Make sure you get out and pick yours up today!

Wolverine Dark Moss
Ball Specs
Cover Stock: S70 Pearl
Finish: 4K Fast
Layout:65 x 5 x 35
RG: 2.54
Differential: 0.053

Review
The Wolverine Dark Moss features the S70 Pearl coverstock, which optimizes max length on medium conditions. The Wolverine Dark Moss core is the lacerate 2.0, which will give the ball a skid/flip reaction. I tested the ball on a broken down 42 feet THS. As a medium to low rev player, I was standing between the 21 and 30 boards with my feet and 4 and 10 boards with my eyes, never losing any striking power. My ball layout is 65x5x35. The Dark Moss is a must have for league and tournament bowlers. My ball reviews are posted on YouTube channel Stanley Waite.

Review:
This is probably my favorite ball lately! I have been bowling very well with this ball in league the last few weeks. The roll, hit and carry is all I could ask for on our house shot lately. This new Wolverine is more versatile, is stronger and hits better than the original for me. I have only used it in the 4k Fast finish which on this ball looks slightly polished and don’t want to change a thing. I will be drilling my second one soon but I am not sure I can improve on this one. This ball is a bit stronger than my idol Cosmos but under my Reality Check. This ball has been a bigger hit at the shop than I anticipated and everyone has been very satisfied with this ball. The way this ball reads the lane and drives through the pins is excellent. As you can tell I am really enjoying this ball!

Summary:
The Core and Cover are matched perfectly on this ball.
The 4K Fast finish works very good on the Wolverine Dark Moss.
The control and carry is top notch.

The newest ball in the 900 Global line is the Wolverine Dark Moss. Like the blue wolverine this ball is really clean and very strong off the spot. This fills a hole in my bag needing a big pearl. I drilled mine 4x40x30 i still have mine with the box finish of the 4k fast gives me what i'm looking for out of this ball.
