Cardinal Red Boost
Coverstock: S43â„¢ Pearl
Finish: 2000 Grit, Polished
Color: Cardinal red pearl
Core: Launchâ„¢ Symmetric
Select series
2.54 Radius of gyration
.043 Differential
Positive Axis Point 5 7/16 by 1/4 up
Layout 5 1/2 x 4 x 2 1/2

This is my third BOOST I drilled this year, I drilled a 2 inch pin pearl and a 6 inch hybrid with lower pin placements earlier so I decided to drill a more aggressive layout with a higher pin with the new CARDINAL RED BOOST.  This is a great all around ball for those bowlers just getting started with the game, also it will be a great ball for drier lane conditions too.  It's a sharp looking ball rolling down the lane and  with it's lower price point, this ball should grab some attention from your fellow teammates.  Remember if you want to BOOST your scores without putting a hole in your wallet, get a CARDINAL RED BOOST and get performance in YOUR game.

Red Cardinal Boost
Drilled: 85x5x25 Dual angle
5x6.5x1.5

This ball has more down lane length than the Boost Pearl. It has smooth back end continuation. The Red Cardinal Boost will be great for high rev player wanting more length and more controllable back end. Also, this would be a great ball for beginner bowlers. It works really well when the heads is burnt up. It is a great ball for sports patterns and medium to light oil conditions.

BOOST CARDINAL RED PEARL
Drilling: 6 ¼ x 4 x 4 ¼ (Pin above Middle Finger)
Finish: Box Finish
Speed – 15.5-16.5 MPH
PAP – 5 1/4 & 7/8 up
I seem to have trouble clearing the front part of the lane when they break down and dry up.  I have had success with this type of drilling on other balls and the Cardinal Boost is no different. Our boost series definitely is a great performance value especially for the price point.  This ball is definitely clean and clears the front part with little effort.  Has plenty of recovery and doesn’t seem to lose any hit regardless of how deep I want or need to go.  Ball will be great for shorter patterns and late block tournaments.  Also a great starter ball for those looking to move up from a House Ball or a Youth Bowler looking to buy his first “League Ball”, you will not be disappointed.

Drilled my Boost stacked under the Bridge which gives me a smooth controled backend. This ball will work on a variety of lane condition because of it`s pearl cover it will have lenght but also has alot of backend reaction. Great ball for newcomers to the game a little hook with a controled  backend

I can't say enough about these balls.  They really are some of my favorite out there.  The Cardinal boost goes a little bit farther than the rest of them, but still makes the turn and hits hard.  For the price point, they are clearly the best on the market.  Every person on the lanes today should have a BOOST.  Clearly the go-to when the lanes break down.  I look to these balls as the benchmark in my arsenal as something where I can hold the line I already use and win big.  I have recommended this ball to countless people and even purchased one for my son.  It is really that good.

This Cardinal Boost and the rest of the boost series balls are clearly the best balls on the market, at this price point, or otherwise!

The first thing I need to say is that this review is for the Emerald/Gold pearl Boost, not the Cardinal.  The Emerald/Gold was not listed, but since it is a pearl this was the closest one available.

A little about me for comparison purposes.  I am a 15-16 mph, 325-350 rpm lefty.  My “stock” shot has less than 5 degrees of axis tilt and more than 65 degrees of axis rotation, although I’ve been working on reducing the rotation to provide better back end control.  My composite average since 2000 has been 221.  When I do reviews, I try to give an honest assessment, and more than the “goes long, hooks hard, greatest ball ever” type.  I am not currently a member of any company's staff, so can express my honest opinions.

My league house this year has been giving me fits.  It’s a scratch trios league with four games per night.  I’d never bowled a league there before, and everything seemed to be either hook off my hand if I went up the lane or not read the lane at all if I gave it room.  My average was down about 7 pins and I was looking for a miracle.  I decided to try a pearl entry level ball, thinking that with a weak pearl cover and symmetrical core I could keep my angles tight, not have to worry about recovery, and maybe get a little hold area to the inside.  I came across an undrilled Emerald/Gold Boost and figured that this checked all the boxes.  I drilled it up 45 x 5 x 30.  Yes, I know the drilling angle doesn’t mean anything with a symmetrical ball, but I use that as my “standard” symmetrical layout.  I didn’t get a chance to practice with it before league night, so I had no idea what to expect.

My first practice shots absolutely shocked me.  I was using the “up the back” release I’ve been working on, so axis rotation was around 45 degrees with my usual very low tilt.  The ball read the midlane a bit earlier than I would have expected from a polished pearl, and really moved hard off the spot.  This was an entry level ball?  This was not the “skate through the heads/mids and tip towards the pocket” look I was expecting.  It was far stronger than I anticipated.  The green and gold bands made it very easy to see when the ball revved up.  And the way it went through the pins was unbelievable.  The best way I can describe it is that it just ignored the pins completely.  There was absolutely no deviation in its path from the breakpoint until it left the pin deck.

For the first game, I was still having a hard time believing what I was seeing and getting the “entry level” designation out of my head.  I was keeping my angles pretty much in front of me and counting on the ball holding the line.  I finished with a 196 with one split, a solid 7, and two solid 8’s.  Not the best start, but I was in love with the way it was going through the pins.  I finally accepted that the ball was significantly stronger than it had any right to be, opened my angles some and suddenly had the best look I’ve had all year.  The ball recovered beautifully, never once squirted through the breakpoint, and still went through the pins like they weren’t even there, splitting the 8-9 shot after shot.  It wasn’t long before guys on the other team and even from neighboring lanes were walking over to the ball return to see what I was throwing.  The polished S43 cover did not tear up the oil pattern.  Other balls I had used with more surface had caused me to move my feet two arrows over the course of the four games.  I kept waiting for the ball to read early and jump, but it just never happened.  With the Boost I moved my feet one board near the end of the fourth game when a “half-hit sorta flat 7” made me think I needed just a touch more head oil.  I finished with a nice 957 four game set after the 196 start.

My assessment of this ball is that it is a player on any medium condition.  Longer patterns will make you tighten your angles some.  With shorter patterns, you can open up your angles without worrying that it won't recover.  It will.  The heavier handed will be able to use this on a fairly wet condition, but I think it will struggle on truly heavy oil unless the pattern is short.  I think the back end will still be there, but it may not read early enough.

It still blows my mind that this is a medium differential (0.043) ball with their pearl S43 cover.  This would be a weaker cover than anything in their current lineup.  With the performance this ball has, it’s hard to imagine what their stronger balls would do.  This Boost is the first 900 Global ball I’ve ever thrown.  It won’t be the last.

Just thought I would give an update on my Boost.  Recall that this review is for the Emerald/Gold pearl Boost and am putting it here because the Emerald/Gold wasn't one of the available choices.

I've used this ball for three weeks now in my four game trios league.  In my first night with the ball, I struggled a bit in the first game due to a preconceived (and seriously erroneous) idea of the ball's strength.  Once I accepted the reality of how strong the ball is, I finished with a nice 761 series for the last three games.  Over the last two weeks, I've had sets of 999 and 1003.  So over the last 11 games with the Boost I've averaged just a tad over 251.  One of the reasons for this is the way this ball goes through the pins.  It is just incredible how often this ball splits the 8-9 or even runs over the 9-pin (remember I'm a lefty) shot after shot.  This has led to a carry percentage of about 85%.  When this ball hits the pocket, if it leaves something both myself and my opponent are genuinely surprised.

I did finally get the opportunity to move a little deeper with the ball.  We had a little more oil the other night, resulting in some other lefties using "nerf" and tearing up the left side some.  I had been standing 19-23, targeting 8-9, and going out to around 6 at the breakpoint using my "up the back" release which results in about 45 degrees of rotation.  As I was forced to move in, I kept track of where the ball left the pin deck.  By the middle of the fourth game I was standing 27, targeting 11-12, still going out to 6-7 at the breakpoint, and the ball was "only" running over the 8-pin instead of splitting the 8-9.  I let my hand come around the ball, resulting in a rotation of about 70 degrees.  The ball was cleaner through the heads and midlane, but still refused to "squirt" through the breakpoint.  I finished with the last six in a row with the ball splitting the 8-9 again each shot.

The bottom line is that I haven't found anything this ball can't do on a normal house shot.  It reads the pattern like a scholar, is very predictable and consistent, finishes like a runaway train, carries like nothing I've ever seen, and takes hand position changes like a champ.  I'm really not sure what else you could ask for.
