The Link
« on: September 06, 2008, 07:05:34 AM »
Hello all. I am searching for a piece to place into my personal arsenal here.

As it seems the oil pattern and lane surface (despite having been professionally done) refuses to hold up to a 5 man team league.

So I am looking to find a weaker ball that I can start out near the gutter and play the dry that's there to start and then slowly move into the middle as they start to dry up and wind up playing like 20-15.

The only ball I ever had that I could shoot this with was a MoRich Pioneer. My PowerGroove was too flippy, the Scout/R didn't make it and the Cherry Vibe was too strong.

Will the Link fit in here? How does it compare to the other $100-110 Entry Resins on the market?

Thanks in advance.

I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

Doug, the Link is a great ball! It is cleaner through the heads and the mids than the creature pearl, and still has some pop on the back. I drilled one for my son, pin up, 5.5X5 and it works great.
Don't hesitate to try that or the Creature Pearl.

A little off my game at the moment just coming back from some time off. I do have the creature pearl and the link atm and all i can say atleast my Link is a monster. I prefer pearl bowling balls with weak drills and taking the polish off to allow for some hook if needed. Well i have my link at 4000 no polish, pin about 6inches from pap and this is stronger than my CP which is OOB atm with the same drill by about 8 boards. With some more time i will play with the coverstocks on both. Now with that being said I love my link, just not for dry lanes. The roll and revs on this ball is amazing, nothing i have seen for such a entry level type ball.
It is nice to be back in SA and seeing a smaller, but strong bowling company making a difference. Also knowing several of the members at global/amf and being able to talk with them at length about their products is a big help as well.

Doug, if you can wait a couple weeks, I will give you my opinion after I have had the chance to throw my link a few times.

Doug,
I received my link and drilled it up today. Pin 4" from PAP, PAP-pin-MB angle of 50 degrees. Pin is about 1" above finger line in a 1:00 position in relation to ring finger. CG is 2" right of grip center allowing a weight hole 2" down on the VAL. FWIW, ending weights are 3/4 side, 5/8 finger.

I threw the ball on a fresh house shot tonight. I quickly found a good line throwing across 13 (at the arrows arrows) to a breakpoint of 7. This ball is super clean through the heads and mids, then makes a serious turn when it gets to the end of the buff (oh, and of course it hits like a tank/truck/train etc...LOL! Seriously though, it hits and carries as good as anything else I've thrown.). I could miss right all I wanted, and the ball never failed to make it back to the pocket. I was able to miss a board or two left, and the ball would hold pocket. However, much more than that and the ball would skid through the puddle and come up light. I tried moving right to play up the dry outside, and I could not throw the ball hard enough to keep it on the right side. This ball is NOT for dry lanes! Anything from light to medium would be fine.

So, for you, Doug...I would say go ahead and drill one up (because it is an exceptional value), but don't expect to be able to play straight up the outside

Way to go 900G on another great product!

just remember you can lay the ball out with a weaker drilling and change the cover on it if needed....SMILE!!!

Not if the house pattern is like ours

The only thing I can use up the outside is platic...and that does work VERY well (I have used both the XXXL and crystal diamond to play this line).
Keep in mind I don't have much hand. The house just does not use much oil on the outside...it's a wet/dry wall to be sure!

My first impression of the link was similar to the Tropical Storm...except the link hits much harder. I expected both to be very tame, but they both react sharply to the dry.
