- Description: The Hook series offers big time performance at entry level cost. The S43 shell (solid or pearl) provides bowlers with an option when selecting the coverstock which best matches their individual game and the condition they are bowling on. The Hook Blue/Blue offers the most traction out of the box with a 4,000 grit Abralon finish. Both the Red/Yellow solid and Orange/Purple Pearl come with a 2,000 grit polished finish. The Red/Yellow solid is smoother off the spot, whereas the Purple/Orange Pearl will create a slightly sharper move at the breakpoint. The High Rg – Medium Differential performance core has been engineered to power the ball through the heads with ease, and generate a predictable strong hooking motion for all skill levels.

Likes: Really like this ball for a nice up the board look. Drilling is pin under the ring with the CG kicked to the right, no hole yet.
Ball is really surprising for a S43 shell. This is a Hybrid cover, which for me get's the ball through the heads very smooth, and picks up a nice readable move to the pocket off the dry. Carry was above average, and with a weaker ball for some reason I can get the 4 pin to trip a lot more than with a power ball, entery angle I guess.

This ball is easy on chasing the oil as the lane breaks down, big moves didn't seem to be needed, the ball keeps it's roll and hit for starting at up 7-8 all the way to swinging 17-18, during a long practice session, with 3 people on the pair,...after that it becomes evident that this ball is not for deep angles, to me the strike percentages go down once I got left of 4th arrow. All in all, I think this ball could be used in several situations. I like the color scheme,and the ball got a lot of attention for my practice partners. The one I got isn't a PINK, it's more of  a soft red-coral look.

Good Ball, I'd recommend this ball to someone that wants to control the lane, prevent over/unders, and thay may use slower ball speeds.  jim ensminger

Likes:  The Hook series - 900 Global's inexpensive line are all little monster balls waiting to hook!  This one the the Pink Hybrid for myself is extremely strong on a regular THS. I love and do well with hybrid's so I was looking forward to what this ball had to offer.  It did not disappoint! Drilled a 5 x 5 layout, pin up.  Polished it gives good length but the backend reaction is super strong for my slower speed and rotation.  Took an A pad to the cover and was able to use it more effectively on our THS.  Backend was tamed down and the dull cover gave me room to get into the oil where others were using high performance balls.  I like the extra push down the lane the Hybrid gives me.  Good carry overall has a tendency to leave some back row pins due to the strong breakpoint.  Very easy to adjust surface to fit style and/or lane condition.  Hybrid is a great addition to the HOOK line, gives a different look on the lane than the other Hooks.  Great job 900 Global!!



Dislikes: NOT for dry lane conditions!

I picked up a NIB 15lb Hybrid Hook. 
I had a Link pearl before and liked the S30 coverstock, but wanted something a little stronger and earlier...decided to go with the hybrid S43 cover.  I liked the core from the original Code, and the Hook looked to have a similar shape and numbers.

The ball I purchased had 5" pin to cg and just under 2 oz top.  Seemed like perfect spec for a double thumb layout, so I went ahead and layer the ball out for it.  Ending being a 65X4X30 layout, which puts the pin above and right of ring, cg just below midline and a little right of ring.  Weight hole drilled 1.5" right of thumb, pitched right....7/8" hole drilled 2.75" deep.  I left the ball in box surface...polished.

I've thrown the ball a few times now on a standard house pattern, compared against an AMF Shred-It with the same layout.  First, the ball really flares a lot.  The core in the Hook is actually quite strong.  With the very strong layout, this results in a super smooth reaction.  Lots of mid lane reaction, with a smooth transition.  This gives an easy to read arcing reaction.  Overall hook is about 8 boards less than the shred-it, but with a similar shape.  I think this will be a great ball for lighter patterns, due to the weaker coverstock.  I'm still waiting to see performance on broken down conditions, but suspect, the reacting will be fine.  On the fresher shot, I wad able to get in somewhat and create a little angle, but still carry.  The ball didn't seem to push too far down the lane.  Slowing the speed down allowed me to get even further inside.... Carry was still pretty good.  Overall, I'm happy with the reaction, shape, and carry or the price point.  I could see this being a great low-cost option for many league bowlers that battle with lighter oil conditions.
