900 Global Reality Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

Recently, news came out that Storm Bowling Products purchased 900 Global and that also meant the staff players could throw 900 Global equipment.  When this news broke, I was excited to add more equipment to the arsenal and immediately wanted to drill a Reality.  The Reality is found in the 900 series and is considered the “heavy oil” ball in the Global line up.  With numbers coming in at 2.49 (RG) and differential of .052, the Reality is a perfect ball for longer / heavier volume patterns.

I’ve drilled one Reality so far and really like it.  I mapped it out as 4 ½ x 4 x 75 and left the surface alone (2000) and it rolls great.  I’ve had the most success when my angles have been in front of me and I can get my hand up the back to tumble it, which has worked on so many different pattens.  I also like using the Reality as the first ball out of my bag to see what the pattern looks like.  I also know that there’s a ton of balls that compliment the Reality such as: Hyroad Max, Idol Synergy, Axiom.

If you need a big, asymmetrical ball to tackle multiple patterns, the Reality should be the next ball you drill!

900 Global's new 900 series release is called the REALITY. It features a powerful asymmetric core with the new S84 Response cover. Response is a great name for this type of cover. This ball digs in immediately and keeps coming.

I made two attempts at using the REALITY in my normal league, but I didn't want to play 5th arrow on the fresh so I put it away and waited. There's a pattern league that bowls in the middle of the week and I used their open pair so I could throw the Reality on the 45 ft PBA Dragon Pattern. I spent a little time watching the league bowlers get the ball right and take 3 off the right. I threw my first couple shots from in trying to trap it from getting right of 12 down-lane. Then a funny thing happened, the ball went high. I got the next one out to 9/10 and struck. I was surprised to say the least. I decided to see if I could play straighter close to the Out of bounds area. I had to up my speed a little but It was fantastic. I had miss room on both sides thanks to the strength of the ball when I got it right and the length of the pattern when I missed in.

Once I had a chance to see the strength of this core on a higher volume pattern I decided to adjust the cover so I could try using the Reality again in league. I took the cover up to 5000 and took it back out game 1 of league that week. The ball would clear the front but that core strength still kept the ball hooking. I was able to use the ball the first two games and actually shot my high series of the year. The ball keeps its rounder, controlled motion off the back but still continues and hits like it did with the duller cover. The 5k cover just allows the ball to clear the fronts where there isn't as much oil.

Shark

Length:48 feet

Volume:26.35 ml

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):PBA

PAP: 4 7/16 right by 1/8 up

Layout: 40 x 5.5 x 30

Speed: 18-19 mph off my hand, 16-17 mph on the monitors

Revs 400-450.

I had the pleasure of throwing this ball for the first time on the PBA 48 foot Shark pattern. This ball definitely does not disappoint. Its very clean but still early enough to grab the lane in heavier volumes. This ball is definitely the strongest ball in my bag and even on the shark, I had some miss room to the right as the ball stores enough energy to make it back to the pocket but still held when I tugged it. On a THS this ball is just too strong for me at the centers I bowl at but will definitely be in my bag for longer patterns and shorter heavier volumes.   /

Likes:Very strong motion to the pocket, carry was really good. Had some miss room out and some hold inside.

Dislikes:As the pattern transitioned the Reality started to go a little too long before turning the corner and I left a bunch of 7 pins.

900 global came out with a new cover core combination of the S84 Response Solid Reactive and the Disturbance Asymmetric Core.
The Disturbance core was designed with a focus on a shape that will fill a space with the least amount of material, yet still yield the RG/Diff values that all bowlers need.
The S84 Response cover promotes up to 20% larger pore sizes which in turn ensures maximum traction on heavy oil.  In addition, the Reality will rival the original Volatility with the S86R cover that was an asymmetric hybrid.
In the videos you will see how the cover core combination comes together with an early revving motion in the heads combined with a strong backend reaction.
In my bag the Reality will be the first out the bag for a heavy oil pattern and maybe on a fresh house shot depending on how much oil is in the mid lane.  Then you can ball down to a 900 Global Zen to blend the wet/dry.
I did a ball comparison to the 900 Global Zen, Storm Proton Physix and Roto Grip Rubicon.
In comparison to the 900 Global Zen, the Zen will be a litter more smoother the mids due to having a symmetric pearl coverstock but a touch more reactive on the backend giving you an option to open up your angles.
The Storm Proton Physix drilled pin down can give an option to ball down from the Zen when the lanes become a little dryer and more cliffed.
The Roto Grip Rubicon will give you an option to use on the burn while being able to play around the same area as the other pieces.

The Reality is the newest, high end Asym., from 900 Global.  This ball comes from the factory with a 2000 grit finish on the S84 Response Solid cover.  When I drilled this ball I was looking for a bigger Asym. where I could really keep my angles more in front of me. While I do have some balls that do this, they really labor once I have to open the lane up a bit…NOT THIS BAD BOY!  I was pleasantly surprised that I could keep opening my angles and this ball would keep coming back!  The Reality is quite a bit more versatile than what I first imagined.  like most asyms for me, it did reach a point that I needed to ball down to get more shape down lane.  This balls is very useful on the fresh as it blends the wet/dry well.  It also takes to surface changes well, I hit this one with a 3000 pad just to smooth it a touch.  The Global balls out of Utah have been Outstanding! I suggest you give them a try!

If bowling has been stale lately and you seem to be out of it. Do not worry just get this ball in your bag and you will see yourself snap back to REALITY! I was missing a strong solid in my arsenal and I have it now. I currently throw around 15.5mph and higher revs and I usually can not roll solids because of how strong they roll for me, but I really enjoy how smooth and clean this ball is through the fronts. Still a really strong ball for me but I can play deeper then ever before without the crazy snap in the backend. Extremely controllable and fun to throw.

Reality..... the first EVER global ball I have throw and man it didn’t disappoint!! This baby is a hook monster on my first shot I kinda guessed where I might need to stand according to my other big hook balls. I had to move about 5 boards left from where I started.
I put the Reality to the test VS the Storm Proton Physixs ( one of my favourite recent releases).
When comparing the two I found the reality was more continuous through the pins and had overall hook of about 3 more boards then the Proton. I definitely had a lot more miss room to the right of I leaked it out the reality would still come back and make the corner where the Proton would just loose to much not recovering.
I’m super excited to put the Reality to the test on long patterns I think this thing is going to kill it. For my first ever Global ball definitely exceeded my expectations!!!!

Ball Specs
Reality
Cover: 2000 Grit, S84 Response Solid
Weight Block: Disturbance (Asymmetric)
Color: Magenta/Aqua/Midnight Blue

Review:
If you want a ball that can hook a lot, look no further. The Reality is a ball that will never be described as a ball that doesn’t make a big movement on the lane. This ball is a great heavy oil ball that will really cut through the oil on the high-volume patters. I wasn’t able to use this ball on a typical house shot because it was just too much ball., but it is kept in my tournament bag for when I run into those high-volume patterns. When throwing I got a nice smooth reaction that will store energy for when it hits the pins creating a nice pop when it does. When comparing this ball to other balls in my bag it is hard to tell if the Reality or the Proton Physix is the strongest ball in my bag at this time. Both of which are great option, if you’re looking for something a little different then the Proton Physix get yourself a Reality today!

Video ball review:  https://youtu.be/JnSsgWDy2yo

This is the first 900 Global ball I have drilled since 900 Global was brought under the Storm umbrella in 2021 so I was not sure what to expect. This strong asymmetrical piece compliments the Storm and Roto Grip balls like the Proton Physix and the UFO.

When picking a layout for this ball I wanted to fill a gap and have a specific shape. My pin down layout on the UFO made it very conditional and not as versatile as I would have liked out of a strong asymmetrical ball. By placing the pin in the ring it positioned this ball in between the pin ups like my Proton Phyix and RST X-1 and the pin down UFO.

Because of the drilling on this ball it is more zone specific. If I move too far inside the ball will not shape the right way with the out of box surface. I plan on using  this ball on medium to shorter patterns on the fresher conditions. I tested it out on 33’ Cheetah after a league night and it was too strong for me to  use.

Orientation:  Right Handed
Rev Rate:  400 RPM
Speed:  16-17 MPH
PAP:  4 ½ over and ½ up

Location:  Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO
Pattern:  High Volume THS
VLS Layout:  5 x 4 x 2 1/2
Dual Angle Layout:  50 x 5 x 40

The Reality is a clean versatile solid asym from 900 Global.  Usually big solid asyms roll at my foot and don’t do much.  They sit in my bag and wait for a “puddle” that I don’t ever see.  The Reality is clean and continuous enough that I can use it on more medium patterns.  This ball has been out of my bag a lot both on tougher patterns and on some easier.  If you’re like me and wanted a more medium solid asym, the Reality is a no brainer!

The new 900 Global balls have been consistently great, and the Reality is no exception. It is not quite as aggressive overall as the Storm Proton Physix, but it is the strongest 900 Global ball that has come out of Utah thus far. That being said, it is just a small step down from the Proton. It has a very strong midlane roll which allows it to handle heavier oil conditions easily, but it is a little bit cleaner than some of the other higher end bowling balls. This allows it to handle transition easier. You can keep moving left with this ball until the head oil gives way, at which point the Zen or Honey Badger Revival come into play.

The Reality from 900 Global is the first ball without a bolt or star on the label that I have used since 2001. That is 20 years! The Reality has a big asymmetric core called Disturbance, and is wrapped in a solid coverstock called S84 Response and comes from the factory with a 2000 grit abralon finish. The numbers in 15lbs are 2.49Rg, 0.052 differential, and .018 intermediate differential. This is the strongest ball that 900 Global has produced to date.

I drilled Reality 4.5 X 3.5 X 2.5. This is the same layout that I have on my pin up Rubicon. With the out of the box finish on a freshly oiled 41 foot house shot, and comparing to a fresh 3000 surface on the Rubicon, the Reality is a little less responsive in the heads of the lane even though it has more surface, picks up in the midlane stronger, and has more forward roll through the backend of the lane. The Reality seemed to blend the fresh pattern a little better than did Rubicon ( Rubicon was a tad flippy on the backend comparably), because Reality slowed down sooner. As the lanes break down, the lower surface grit of the Reality makes it see the transition sooner than with the Rubicon, and I have to move deeper on the lane, and make moves more frequent to keep up with the oil depletion that is taking place. I usually only use this type of layout when bowling on house conditions that have a puddle in the middle, as it helps me blend out the pattern and keeps me inside the oil line and staying away from the dry boards, outside. One note of interest so far is that the cover has seemed to hold the factory surface very well, and has not really lane shined too quickly.

The way Reality reads the lane is different than what I have become accustomed to with my Storm and Roto Grip bowling balls, as a whole. The fact the Reality is a little easier through the heads and picks up in the middle of the lane while not being as responsive at the breakpoint, will be a big plus to compliment what I already have in my bag, moving forward. I definitely am looking forward to this exciting opportunity to use 900 Global bowling balls! Thank you for reading my review of the 900 Global Reality!

I have been so impressed by the Reality. I drilled it 45x4x20 and man does this ball hook! If I had to describe it in one sentence, I would say it’s a high-end, solid, asymmetric ball that hooks a ton WITHOUT being a big snow tire… which is hard to do! I think Global hit a homerun with the Reality and I have seen a lot of them on racks in tournaments which speaks volumes to me. Go get one, it’s that good!

The New 900 Global Reality is very eye catching, the colors are vibrant and really pop! I was excited to get the new reality into my hands as I was looking for a strong asymmetrical piece in my bag, and the reality did not disappoint at all. This Ball is definitely a go to on my Men's League which is normally a Heavier Volume House shot and this ball Performed Exceptionally well and had no trouble digging in to the fresh sauce applied to the lane. If you are looking for a Strong Rolling Ball that is smooth and continuous on the backend look no further. The New Reality Lives up to the hype around it, Get yours at your local Storm VIP Pro shop Today!

Review:
First off, this ball looks very nice on the shelf… Secondly, it hooks A LOT! Be prepared to move left and open up the lane with this beauty. This ball can be compared to the Proton Physix by Storm. If you are experiencing a long oil pattern or just like to send the ball out and watch it come roaring back, then this is the piece to put in your bag. Tournament players with high ball speed will also love the look this ball gives them on the lanes. There is not many bad things to say about this ball. It is very smooth throughout the lane and really packs a punch!
