Post by: Bar5003 on February 25, 2008, 09:36:43 AM
Hi All,

Its been awhile since a new video but im back and proud to present to you The CODE video from AMF.

http://www.videoballreviews.com/code.html

I recently invested in a second camera which allow me to do some pretty cool dual angle shots...let me know what you guys think...feedback has been positive so far!

My Take on the ball:

The Code is the best AMF ball i have throw to date.  Think Radar Lock but stronger and more versatile.  OOB its very clean and angular off the dry.  At 2000 it is VERY strong in the oil and continues nicely.  I dont often compare between companies but since the Cell is such a hot item lately (and rightly so) @ 2000 the Code gives you a VERY similar shape to the cell but just a few boards less overall.

Enjoy and as always comments and questions are welcome!

great video. really kind of refreshing to see the misses...as wierd as it sounds. great idea throwing it on the shark, and the two camera's is real cool, especially the shots that are real time top and bottom! great video!

Im at the mercy of the lane machine and lane surface!  Between the higher friction surface of HPL's and the house shot "memory" in the lanes this shark will hook a bit more than you see on TV...but trust me there was a definitive oob and it played like 44' of oil...

The code has a very quick response to friction so that helps on this pattern!

Britton, why would you go for the Code over the Heist?

Anxious to see what Britton says because I LOVE my Heist and not sure how the Code would compliment it.

Drrev, my Heist is drilled almost exactly like yours in terms of pin location. My pinlacks about 1/4" of being entirely under the bridge with CG 1 1/4" out from grip line and no weight hole. Ending side weight was 1 oz. even. I have to agree with you that the Code appears to have less forgiveness on missed targets than the Heist does. I have only had mine 2 weeks, but so far I really LOVE the ball. More time will tell. So far, it and my Twisted Fury seem to really go good together.

This is the first time I have thrown AMF equipment since the Angle Evolution series which was back around 2000 or 2001? I am really impressed with my first AMF ball since then. It appears they are now putting out some really great equipment at the moment that may really fit my style.

Superior is a heavy word...i dont think of one as superior to the other, i think they are both great pieces...

For me, the Hei$t just flat out gets the job done, not flashy, no big backend, just a big sweeping hook with a ton of control built in.  Great ball, wish more people would try it rather than buying the next backend monster that they have no idea what will do when it hits the dry.

The CODE i have found is very tunable to the desired reaction, i have 2 Hei$ts and even with different layouts and surface preps, they have a tendancy to overlap...the CODE is a completly different animal OOB and sanded...oob its pretty skid flipy, but sand it down to 2000 (or even 1000 which i tried) and it hooks, hits and continues just like a cell...still a little less overall than the cell

So as far as one being superior to the other, i think its all about what you are looking for...i do think the Code is superior to the Hei$t as far as "tuneability"  but then again that could just be me.

does that help answer the question?

Gee Brittion, I dunno...It is really hard to judge just by watching videos. My Heist is really unique in how it turns the corner and turns and arcs hard (not flip, but arcs really hard) The ball seems to come back from most anywhere I throw it from without dying at some point like a lot of balls do where they start back or come back so far and then quit and etc. The Heist doesn't do that. It just keeps coming and coming and coming until it gets all the way thru the pocket.

The bottom line is I am trying to figure out how the Code would compliment my Heist. I just know the core and the cover on the Heist really matches up to my style really great and I have been awed by this ball since the first time I threw it. Joe Falco told me several months ago to look at this ball, but I didn't as I wasn't really in the market for a ball at that time. Had it not been for teenek, I still wouldn't have one and I am overly grateful for him putting this ball into my hands.

brick,

I will have a Code on Monday and then you can see me throw it on Tuesday night or so.  Then you can see what the ball actually does in person.

thanks for letting me know this tekneek.  The good thing around here is that the shots are pretty tight and they oil the crap from 5 to 5, so we actually have some oil.
So if the outsides burn up to much I can move deep and then see the ball shine

brick,

the houses that oil different for the men's league's than the daytime leagues.  Our Tuesday night league up at Heritage as a ton of oil in the middle and then Boulevard was having a ton of oil in the middle.

Thanks Chris.

I was unaware they were doing that. I just know we have a medium fresh oil shot on Tues. afternoons at Heritage most of the time, but it may be a bit heavier this year though as some of the 200 average bowlers of last year are shooting in the high 180's to low 190's this year. You just have to be careful when shooting cross lane spares like a right hander shooting the 7 pin from the middle of the lane and allowing for hook as some times the oil is heavy enough in that area, that if you are throwing a hook ball at the 7 pin, it might not hook enough.

As for Blvd., I don't know what they are doing there in the day time senior leagues as I haven't bowled there since the winter leagues of 2007 ended other than 2-3 Sunday mornings of which the lanes were pretty much medium oil. A bit dry the last time about 3 months ago.

Chris, I talked to 3 people at Heritage today. The mechanic, the person that operates the lane machine and Kendric the Asst. Mgr and they all say that the oil in the Tues night mens league is no different than the oil in the afternoon senior league. To me, it is medium oil as my balls work great there and they are all in the medium oil class. Could it be the difference in the lines you and I play that makes it seem like more oil to you???? Maybe it is the difference in our speeds as you throw harder than I do.
