15lb mega friction RICO...6/2/09
« on: June 01, 2009, 03:18:54 PM »
Hi, i am getting a amf mega friction and i am thinking about having it drilled rico and wanted to get some feed back on the idea. its going to be used for tourney's mostly.

also have a break point 4 X 4.5 for tourney's as well to compliment the mf.

Lefty, stroker, 15.0 mph, 350-400 rpm's, low track, alot of side roll. will get pap on 6/4/09  but its near 4.25 x .25 up, last time it was checked 2 mths ago.

thanks, Justin

Updated this post. thanks again.

LEFTY-J-RI,

It has been my experience that, for my game, it is better to drill balls intended for oily conditions with a stronger layout and using weaker layouts as the conditions dry out.

In a truly oily condition, a ball needs all the help it can get, while drier conditions can benefit from a predictable, stable reaction.

I too am looking at getting the Mega-Friction. I just purchased a Villain: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll5/juggernaut_too/Bowling%20balls/0515092122.jpg
and an Orbit Extreme: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll5/juggernaut_too/Bowling%20balls/OrbitExtreme.jpg

the Villain has my "all purpose" drilling on it, as this seems to give me better results on a variety of conditions. The Orbit Extreme is set up with the pin lower and closer to the grip center to give me a smoother, more predictable read on drier shots. When, and if, I am able to get a Mega-Friction, I will drill it pin over with the cg at 45 degrees to my centerline ( as these are ) with an appropriate x-hole.

I may end up needing something between the Villain and the Mega-Friction, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm already in trouble for buying these two, even though they already paid for themselves .

Jugger- You stick a Code in the middle of that Villain and Mega then you have a perfect lineup. I would think the code would be the perfect fit. And it is one heck of a ball. It is one of those balls in my arsenal that will never leave until it just gives out on me.

Justin, what are you hoping to achieve with a Rico drill on a Super strong sanded ball? Even though I'm a Righty, I am also a Low tracker and my experience with Rico has not been good, it is a drilling that is unbeatable on it's pattern but finding that 1 pattern out of 5 that this drilling works on is not worth ruining a great new ball. In my personal opinion, you should consider placing the pin 2 to 3 inches from PAP, Cg stacked below for a Heavy oiled Shark pattern which is what a ball this strong is aimed for, A short Pin position should give you strong, controlled arc to the hole. If you place the Pin in a strong position or Rico, the ball may start-up too soon and not have enough energy to carry.

Agreed.... I have a Rapid Fire Solid with a Rico drilling on it.  Its unstoppable when the condition calls for it (usually a fresh medium shot), but when they tend to break down halfway through game two, it starts exerting all of its energy by the time it hits the pins.  I usually grab my 4.5 x 4.5 Rival and it just finishes the set providing a touch more length, and A LOT more carry.  As with any question about this game, answers vary, and may not be deemed reliable.  Just know that my PAP is considerably higher at 5 3/4 over and 1/4 up, and when I through the Rapid Fire, it clips my middle finger hole within the last couple feet of the lane.  I don't know if my experiences are based on the RICO drilling its self, or if I would get better results by raising the pin just a touch and avoiding the clipping of the middle finger.
