Sideways Review
« on: September 22, 2009, 05:22:10 PM »

I drilled this ball about a week ago, I am a pretty high rev player with above average speed. I chose to do a 4 1/2 x 4 pin under bridge. I left this ball in its OOB condition.

I got exactly what I expected, it gives me a good midlane read and a strong backend move. I wouldnt quite call it "Sideways" but still very strong. The surprising thing is that even with the good midlane read it was still easy to get down the lane.

I have only thrown it on 2 patterns so far, a modified house shot (very short) and this past weekend on Scorpion in a PBA regional. On the house shot I thought it was still a little strong off the spot, but it worked OK. Probably not the ball I should have been using. However, it was the perfect reaction when I switched to it late in the 2nd block of finals on the Scorpion. I was struggling while throwing a combination of a Break s75 and a Break Point before switching to the Sideways for the last 4 games. All I can say is I should have switched sooner. I closed the day with 217, 267, 246 and 228. Had I shot more games like that I might not have been so upset with my overall performance.

In finishing, if you are looking for what I would call a great "league" ball or something you can open up a lane with, I would suggest this ball being your 1st choice!

Any questions or other help I can provide is welcomed!

I know this is a review post, but I'd like to respond to the post.

I got the Sideways about three weeks ago and drilled it very similar to Z Jellsey's.  I thought the ball would really make a big turn at the break point, more then my Virtual Energy.  But it didn't.  The Virtual Energy had the pin a little above and barely right of the ring finger.

The Sideways drilled wound up being a great league ball when the shot broke down or there was shorter oil, like we have in one house and second league. I did take off a touch of the polish.

So I ordered a second Sideways because if I didn't write this I would read all about how I'm comparing apples and oranges.

So I drilled it as close to the same as the Virtual Energy as I could.  the pin and top were very close.

The results, I didn't like it as much as the first one.  Yes, it was much stronger off the break point as compared to the first, too strong.  When it hit the break point, it jumped off the spot.  I'll continuet to work with the second one, but the first one if the first ball out of my bag at one house, and the first one out of my bag when the lanes are breaking down at the other house.

Nicanor...

Can you post pics of both of your layouts?

I am going through the sort of the same issue.  I have a Sideways that, well, isn't sideways and that is what I'm looking for.

I talked to Eric @ 900 and he kind of explained that for the Sideways you need a "perfect storm" if you will.  A lot of things need to be just right to get the reaction that we want.

I was just wondering what you did different between the two.....

I personally have seen Z jell throw that sideways. All I can say is wow. He makes that ball look very very appealing.

I have seen him throw other 900 products as well. Most recent being the hype both black and blue. I can tell you this much, The next ball I get NIB will be a sideways

Z jell is a fountain of info about bowling and ball reaction. He is also a very skilled driller. Someone I trust 100%. Any boys at Pin's and Needles is solid in my book!
