Title: A Little Bit Of Everything In Here....Now Drilled w/pics
Post by: Gunny on August 20, 2011, 04:53:55 AM
Thanks goes out to Steve(tekneek) for another quick transaction and delivery. Just in time before the season starts. Time to punch holes in them and skip them down the lanes.
Now drilled & awaiting league tonight!

I'm jealous , here in Sweden those 5 balls would cost about $2100 (drilling , grips and thumbslug included) and none of them is available over here yet either...
Very nice selection though...

Holy smokes! I'd have to give up bowling if it cost me that much. I also have the Euphoria and Radical Slant Pearl to fill in the gaps I have there.

It really is too bad that they made the Jewel unappealing for most male bowlers.
Gunny, do you really see that much friction that you use mostly pearl equipment, or do they just fit your game better?
I agree, Steve is the man. I will be picking up some pieces from him soon.

That's the price most of us here in Europe have to pay, it sucks but that's the way it is. Doesn't stop people from bowling though, maybe just buy one or two new balls per season.

.
Why do you think it is unappealing? Because they said it was designed with female bowlers in mind?
Looks like a pretty good piece, just hiding behind some poor marketing. Wouldn't bother me to throw one.

I don't know about you, J, but my wedding band doesn't look ANYTHING like that! I think that 900g severely limited their market share by putting the ring on there.
At least they didn't put a cup with dentures in it on the Wisdom! :-p
But seriously, I bet its a sweet rolling ball. But isn't it a lunatic weightblock with a different cover? If its similar, I would rather find a nib lunatic on eBay.
But, in the words of pchee2, (I think it was pchee) , I only throw manly bowling balls!
Gunny, once again, great purchases. I don't see a bad rolling ball coming out of San Antonio hardly ever.

Impending Doom, unfortunately at one of the houses I bowl at the owner keeps shortening the shot. Its hard for me to keep anything right of the head pin. He just recently shortened it another 2 feet and reduced the units of oil. The only consistent shot I have is a fluff up 5, and watching it walk in. The other two houses have a little bit more, but yes, not much oil around my parts. Most of the stuff I drill are pin axis or close to pin axis. Lately its been a 90°x2"x45° drilling. Its the only way I can keep the ball from flipping so hard on the backend.

Wow, Gunny, I'm sorry to hear that. Its places like that that make me wish i still had my clear wolf lol. If you could find one, I would try a link with a pin close your axis. Lay that tall core down and the s30 would clear the fronts. Might be a good experiment.?

I might have to try that. I have a Missing Link sitting under the work bench. I use to bowl three nights a week at that house, now this season I am only bowling one night and the other two nights at different houses. I'm hoping the Jewel will be pretty smooth off the spot, and I'll be able to open up the lane with the OMG Pearl. Hopefully its not too over/under at the break point. I think the Times Up will let me play the track area on the THS at the other two houses, and if I wanted to play way in, than the Raging Bull Charge, or the Grip. We'll have to see, it will be first time bowling league at these other houses, but from what I have seen, I think I'll be alright.
After I shot 300/825 tat that other house, he shortened the shot a foot. I still had a somewhat decent look, but the following week he shortened it another 2 feet and decreased the units of oil. I didn't shoot over 600 for the next 7 weeks, getting close a few times. Struggled with keeping it on the right side of the head pin. Finished with a 209 avg, but I finally said something to the owner and he said the new shot is much better than the old and that the scores have been higher than ever, which I haven't seen. He told me to either learn to adjust, or bowl somewhere else. He's pretty much made it difficult for anyone who has a decent amount of hand to score. I have a ton of hand, but have learned to fluff it up the shoot the past year, but the new shot is just way too dry. But, I'll keep plugging away at it.
Needless to say, 5 of our mens teams have went to different houses, my team included, the others to different leagues. The summer mens league there were six, three man teams. And for this fall/winter league, only 8 mens team. Seems to me all he did was run off bowlers.

Before the pin axis layouts, I was throwing an old urethane Roto Grip Outlaw. It was fun throwing that ball.

I feel your pain! One center i sub in is wood and just has so much friction it's tough for me with my slower speed and rev rate. He puts out a good shot and the scoring pace is huge but i just struggle there. I end up throwing my Hooks drilled weak and a Desperado drilled with a 6" Pin to pap When we're at the low end of the house i can start with a pin down (5.5 in pin( polished Shred-it but only get about a game out of it unless i want to move to 5th arrow

Nice Gunny! Are you leaving them all in OOB condition? I would think that the Times Up is going to be Money. With the weightblock that is in it, and a middle of the road coverstock, strength wise, it should be awesome.

For now they will stay at factory condition. After I throw them in my 3 leagues this week, I'll make the decision to adjust surface. Which more than likely will be 90% surely to change. I hardly keep anything at factory surface. The Jewel and Times Up will be my two go to balls. Everything else is built around it to allow me to open up the lanes a bit more.
