AMF Smoke anyone?
« on: February 18, 2012, 09:57:20 AM »
In need of a good dry lane ball, nothing jumpy.  Anyone have any experience with the smoke?  Can't find much out there on this ball.  I currently throw a Columbia Ransom Demand for med-heavy and a Double Clutch Pearl for med to med-light.  I bought a red yellow Hook drilled weak for this, but for me it is stronger than advertised, and overlapped my Double Clutch Pearl.  I dont know my exact tech numbers, but I track high (within a 1/2" from fingers and thumb) around 16.5 mph at the pins, rev matched tweener.  Also, considering a Brunswick Slingshot or a Strom Troprical Breeze.  Basically looking for a step up from plastic, without having to go urethane.

The SMOKE is two things. it is:

1. Very mild coverstock

2. "Old School" three piece pancake core.

It is going to be just about as weak as you will find in any reactive resin ball.

I have an old reactive "CLAW" Hammer that would be comparable to the SMOKE, and it is a lifesaver when I need that ball to fill the gap between stronger reactives and weaker urethanes.

Thanks, I figured it would be similar to something like a tornado.  Couldn't believe how strong the Hook is given its entry level title.  Think I might give the smoke a try.

Hook is a lot of ball for that price point.  The Missing link would be between the smoke and hook...good luck!

Second thought;  my Hook is drilled pin above ring with cg directly between ring and thumb.  Could a pin down drill with some surface result in more control for dry backends? As I have no trouble with heads or mids, its the backends that kill me with this ball.  Kindof would like to make this ball fill that spot instead of buying something else.

I would put like a 2" pin to PAP to accomplish what you are thinking....
