Title: AMF Top Notch Again
Post by: mrbowlingnut on August 27, 2008, 05:26:01 AM
I would like to thank Eric Thomas for being such a good guy, I had a Radar that cracked the entire ball that I had bought about 9 months ago.

I emailed him about the situation and he wrote me back within a few hours and asked for photos, well he then asked me which ball i wanted to choose from and listed the Nkryption Code as one of the choices.

I actually chose the Nkryption Code and sent him the spec's I hoped for and within 1 week a ball with exact specs showed up to my disbelief. If it was 0-1 it would have been fine with me, but this shows you the AMF team is run by a class act Eric Thomas.

Well I had it drilled pin over ring 4 3/8 to pap and the mb is right and below my thumb, let me tell you this ball is a huge winner. The ball handles medium to medium-heavy oil and has tremendous back end reaction, I shot 256 and 236 in games 1 and 2 for sweepers, I fell off game 3 to 196 with a Mystic after a huge fight on the lanes with my wife.

This ball is the real deal it looks like a half solid and pearl to me with the green pearly looking cover and the burgandy being solid. Revs up nice and hit is way above average hits like a mack truck for all you fans of that saying hahaha

I did take second with 0 handicap

Eric also helped me with a ball crack.  I appreciate his help, and will buy more AMF/900 Global products in the future.  Let me also point out that my Radar, Radar Lock, Creature, Creature Pearl, and Nighthawk were all and still are long lasting, easy to maintain pieces of equipment.   Joe

I wish AMF wasn't as overlooked as they are, because they are making awesome equipment, along with 900 global. They also have great people that help you with their products.

Mainzer,

Don't be nervous, give AMF a try.  The Nighthawk, Nighthawk Pearl, Heist, and Code are all great choices.

About what?

AMF bowling balls have been good for a long time. Unnoticed, unappreciated, yes, but still good. Maybe Columbia may have mismanaged the coverstocks BASF were able to provide them, but somehow, AMF has matched their covers to their cores, as their designers have changed over a few years time now. While everyone has stinkers now and then, some more often than others, AMF has minimized theirs for a long time.

Want a true "Retro" ball, try a Villain.
Want a dry lanes ball, try an Orbit.
Want a benchmark ball, try a Code.
Want a strong, reliable backend medium-heavy oil ball, try an EnKryption.

Want a proven ball, dig up a Radar or a Radar Lock or a Radar Alert. Incredible core that works with many coverstocks.

I think AMF deserves to be considered in the same vane as Roto-Grip: small, underappreciated but proven, time and again.

Sorry to ramble on.

charles, benchmark can go to code or heist

Im so glad people are brainwashed to think that TRACK sucks. And its even funnier when im carrying with my TRACK ball and they're going flat ten with their BRUNSWICK ball.

Not arguing just making some reasonable suggestions.
Don't want to get into a debate about which might suit a particular purpose better. Only attempting to get a fence straddler to "come on over".

A major fight in the alleys that affected your scores.  For many bowlers it would be time for a new wife!

Give AMF a shot,
I currently have the NHP, Code, and the Heist and all are there with the performance of other companies.

We have totally revamped the line and I feel it is the strongest from top to bottom.
My bag consists of the an Angle pearl,New Orbit xtreme, the villain, the code and the Nkryption
The performance of each perfectly matches up to the ball before and the ball after, really have no guess work when making moves or predicting performance.
The Angle has an F25 coverstock rating and is 3 piece
the orbit has a stronger shell than in the past, the core is one I developed years ago and was used in the Track Heat, we now added the same cover formula that made the heat so successful rated at F35
The Villain has an F45 cover rating and is my favorite core of all times, used in the Dynothane Vendetta, Track Elite Performance is same as the 44 MAG was for D/T only in a solid shell. Pearl to follow.
The Code is the benchmark ball of the line F65 rating strong mid lane lots of continuation down the lane
the Nkryption is a mild asymmetrical with an F70 rating and lots of pop down the lane, strong enough out of the box for most medium to heavy conditions but lots of hook with surface adjustments.

newguy,

Is the coverstock on the new Orbit Extremes a solid/pearl hybrid?  I know the question was asked here on BR.com and I remember that Eric answered it had pearl color added.  Just wondering if that meant that it is a solid/pearl hybrid.

Keep up the great work, the equipment you are making there in San Antonio is top notch.

The Heist was no benchmark ball here....It was the first ball out of my bag for me from the very first day I threw it. It is one of the most versatile balls I have ever owned. Playable on a big variety of conditions. If I could only have one ball, it would be the HEIST hands down. It has over 200 games on it and still as strong today as it was the day I first threw it. I just gave it to a Senior Bowler last week that needed a good ball but couldn't afford a new one. I plan on getting another one while they are still available. Buddies has a great price on them for $84.95 right now.

But, Brickguy, Jim,

Your release is not average in revs or ball speed.
For most people the Heist was an even arcing ball on medium conditions, a large part of the definition or a benchmark ball.

Does anyone else notice how there aren't any 900 Global products in Mr. 900 Global's bag?    Hmmm....

I'm suddenly very interested in the Villian, though.  I had my eye on the 44 Magnum when it was still a current-line ball but I can't buy every ball I have my eye on.  There's a Break S75 on the wall in the shop here, but if Phil can't even put it in his bag, I dunno anymore.  Maybe the EnKryption Code.  It's gettin' to be about that time of year to pick up a new ball.

Oh I can put them in my bag, just that AMF has a full line that matches up for  me right now, I will be drilling up a 900 Global Arsenal next week to compare. Together they would make one great set but for now I have AMF only. Same designer same factory same resin bases if the logos were not on the balls who would know which ball went with which line until it is assigned a home and logo are engraved.

I know, I'm just pickin'.

Frankly, if you made them all without logos and all the same color, there might be three people on this site that could tell which was which.  I could probably tell the difference between a Break S75 and a Black Angle sans logos but that's pretty much the limit of my talent.

Phil needs to drill something that he can beat me with.  I never thought betting a dollar a game i would ever win enough to get a free tank of gas.  How does it go Phil "smash 7-9"?

I am using a hodgepodge of balls right now.  Conditions at league have been changing week to week it seems like.  In my bag currently-Nkryption, Break (polished), Villain, Orbit Xtreme.
