Is it me or does the core of this ball resemble a Gamebreaker's core? Hmmm? This could be a gem in disguise. I wonder if the numbers are close also.

They are similar except the AMF has the puck at the top offset.

The gamebreaker is the old nitro r2 core I believe. Ebonite uses it on a lot of their new bowling balls including a lot of the V2 series.

It looks like the Scamp core which is very similar to the V2 core Ebonite uses.

If I remember correctly, Ebonite was pouring balls for AMF back then. AMF was doing their own R&D, and that core design was begun by them (AMF) in this WHIP series.

Later, sometime after AMF stopped using it, it popped up in Ebonite balls, and the rest is history.

Biggest problem you're going to have with the Whip series is the coverstock. Ask Joe Firpo sometime what he felt about them when he was on AMF staff back then.

I had the Bull Whip, and on today's lane conditions it barely moves. The Ebonite-poured AMF balls are really hit or miss. I believe they poured the XS series as well and talk about hit or miss, I had all three and getting the surfaces usable was a chore in and of itself.

I'm sure others had different opinions, but I would characterize just about any Ebo-poured AMF ball from that era as suffering from Weak Hit Syndrome unless you paid particular attention to how you drilled it and how you tweaked the surface.

Is this the ugly brown colored Whip?

If so, I loved that ball! Skid flip at it's best. Very predictable and carries well. You got a gem if that's the one you have. I once shot 756 with mine. It's also great on wood lanes as well.

I hated the Bull Whip! I could never get that dam thing to move. Ended up putiing a coupla of exotic drills on mine, trying to make it useable.

i have one like the ball that can be seen at the link i have provided at the bottom. it is in pretty good shape, it has some nicks, but i paid $14 for a bag, shoes, and the ball at a resale shop. i have thrown it a few times, i think with some minor tweekings it's a keeper. my only dislike is that it is 15lb and i throw 16lb stuff.

Try sending a message to ballreviews memeber, king of the mill. He has lots of old info like that. Even old web sites and ball reviews only were given info like, "high" by the companies back then. He even found me the Mass bias rating of the Blue Wolf when most people didn't even knoww it had one.

RG was "medium" and Differential was "high"
They didn't number them back then.
