BTM AMF Maximum Velocity?
« on: December 28, 2004, 01:35:36 AM »
Hello,
Has anyone received this month's issue of Bowling this Month magazine? If you have time, can you post a quick run down of the stats? Or just the numbers regarding length, backend, etc. I'm trying to compare this to other solid resin balls that I have. Morich Ravage, Total A. and Track Rule.

Thank you!

You'll be slightly disappointed, I'll wager, because it's not considered a "strong" ball. This is probably because it comes polished, not dull or matte.

It got very consistent reaction marks from stroker, tweener and cranker so I'll average them. (I'm very cautious on quoting BTM copyrighted material.)

Dry: 4, Medium: 9, Oil: 6
Torque: 7 (VERY flippy, skid/flip)
length: 13.5
backend: 15
total hook: 47

"Overall hook is spread between midlane and backend."
"Oily conditions will require surface prep ..."
"... will performbest on medium conditions."
"Drier and sport patterns will only cause frustration due to strong breakpoint ... "
"Lower rev rates will appreciate this ball the most"

copyright Dec 2004 Bowling This Month magazine.

-----------------

I'd guess a valid summary with respect to the balls you specified might be
- handles more oil than the Ravage with similar backend, less oil than the TA and the Rule, with similar ball reaction.
"None are so blind as those who will not see."

Thanks. I havn't thrown an AMF ball since the Torque series. I was just wondering which Columbia coverstock would be similar to the Maximum Velocity and will the overall hit and carry compare to my Track, Morich and Lane #1 balls?

The Maximum Velocity's coverstock is basically the same as the Track Rule, Columbia Big Bully & Bully, but with a much different weight block. This is a smooth rolling ball, does not over-react to the lane conditions as much as other state. This ball is a great ball for medium rev players, with medium speed. I find the ball matching up best for the medium conditions, and wet/dry conditions with the layout that I have (which is pin under middle finger, CG in middle of span, MB under the thumb - Right Handed bowler). I don' think you will be able to cover a lot of boards, but it is a really good ball for all the medium conditions.

You won't be disappointed. If you have seen the PBA tourneys this year... 2 winners using this ball from totally different styles (Cranker - Jason Hurd, Stroker - Rick Lawrence)... so that should tell you something about the ball.. Very controllable, and will match up with all styles of bowlers. Very versatile ball. Go get one, and have fun with it!
