Title: Haugen on Telecast! # 1 Seed for TOC
Post by: EricThomas on January 25, 2008, 01:58:07 PM
Title says it all.  Mike bowled his butt off today making up huge ground early and battling with Barney all night back and forth.  Way to go Mike.  For those of you wondering Mike used a Radar Alert to combat the 50 ft pattern.  Show some support and root for Mike on Sunday.

Should be a great show and hoping Michael comes out on top.  Not bad first TOC and qualifies 1st.  If memory serves me correctly only had 2 games below 200.  Radar Alert is a great ball for oil.  Good thing it is still available.

I was very sorry for Mr. Barnes. He deserved better. He threw the ball way better then his opposition. The only thing I will say about Haughen is he did put the pressure on Mr. Barnes.

Barnes got what he deserved. This thread was about Mike not Barney!

Maybe one day Mike can win and people will finally say the better bowler won.  If you watch that match, Chris clearly had the nuts the first 6 frames maybe?  Mike did have a good look the 7th, 8th,9th and 10th frame, when they counted most.  Chris was chasing a line that finally crapped out he was losing ball reaction and/or speeding it through the breakpoint, ie yes he wrapped a few 10's but he also came very close to leaving the bucket more than once.  So Wes gave Mike his first title even though Mike shot 247, and now Chris gave Mike his first major.  One day friends Mike will win and people will give him some credit.  But hell who cares right, the stats show 2 titles this year.

I should have said more about Haughens win then I did. He NEVER gave up no matter how bad it did look. And it did look bad for him. Barnes choked and Haughen took full advantage of the situation. In reality Haughen did earn the win. Anytime you have to throw 5,6 or more in arow to make a comeback, you deserved to win.

How did he throw the ball better?  Is it because he hooks the ball?  He shot 25? the first match.  Remember he did have a match to line up.  Haugen practiced for the time allowed and the line went away.  He was the tournament leader and beat Barnes already in match play.  He had a problem and corrected it how is that bad bowling.

My next question is how did Chris throw a better game then.  He was losing his line and never got it back.  That is a better game because he couldn't adjust?  Michael adjusted and put the pressure on Chris and Chris lost it.  This thread is about Mr. Huagens victory.

tenpin Mr. Barnes did throw a better game. He make a terrible mistake by missing the 10 pin. By the way if Barnes shot 25 like you are saying then he would not have even made it to the championship match. Barnes had more pocket shots then Haughen. But Haughen did deserve to win because he did put the pressure on Barnes and Barnes choked. Anytime you come back from 50 down and throw the last 6 or 7 like Haughen did you deserve to win. Which we all know that Haughen ended up throwing the ball better in the end.

If I may correct you on one thing, it was a 41ft pattern, not 50ft this year, as well as much lower volume than past years.

Michael's win reminds me of when a lefthander wins. They are never afforded the victory, which they earned, but reasons why the other bowler didn't. Yes Chris had a great reaction, one of the best I have seen him have in years on a show. Did he lose reaction? Maybe. Did he not execute? Probably. But the truth of the matter is that Michael made shots when he had to and Chris did not. The game is 10 frames, not 5.

Chris made an interesting comment in the paddock afterwards..."It will be interesting what I will be remembered for". Seems as if he is as concerned about his image as winning.

Congrats to Michael on a gutsy VICTORY.

Brunsric I would think a person on staff should be concerned about his image and the way he is viewed. Mike deserves a big round of applause on bowling a very smart game and making the right adjustments.

The way I interpet it is that he hopes not to be remembered as the guy who whiffed a ten pin to open the door for a 50+ pin collapse in the TOC as opposed to a guy who had a career in which he won X amount of titles and X amount of dollars. I do not think he was concerned at that moment about his image as a staffer.

After everything has been said, I bet Mike would switch careers with Chris in a heartbeat.

I think that most of the up and comers or guys that have been around (like Mike) and haven't had a ton of success would switch with Barnes in a minute.

I have read it, the reponse was about the comment in the locker room not how Columbia feels about their staffer, least you forget he was a staffer with Columbia when I was an officer for the firm, Chris is a great rep and image for the company. I was involved when the multi year deal was contructed.

The point I was trying to make was even though it didn't come across very clear is that Chris is a great bowler and IMHO he should and probably is concerned about his image and worried about what he will be remembered for, due to the fact that he is a high profile bowler and on staff. A great image is a very important and in no way was I knocking Chris at all, he is obviously one of the best out there.
