Title: Haugen on Telecast
Post by: EricThomas on November 17, 2007, 06:33:00 AM
Michael Haugen Jr will be in search of his first title tomorrow using AMF products.  Mike has been using a Heist and Nighthawk Pearl all week.  Good luck Mike!

Congrats and good luck to Michael.  He has been bowling good all year but just came up short a few times.  I think he is going to have a great year with the AMF equipment.

Atta Boy !!!
Both the Heist and NHP did a fine job!!!!

Wes looked irritated, because of carry issues or Michael's inter-action with the crowd???

I'd be irritated too if I flatout out bowled someone and lost. I'm happy for Haugen but but Wes threw 20 great today and deserved that win.

yes wes should have won. but i am glad to see mike win. let's be honest. haugen may never win again. not to say he isn't a great bowler but he isn't on the malott/jones level. wes will likely win at least several more titles.

outbowled?  Mike didnt throw it that great in the first game but he threw it just as good in the championship round.  i counted 1 bad ball that he left the 4 pin he flushed the rest.  his line was way tighter than wes he was missing right several times on the right lane and got lucky with blower 5's. all in all great first victory and his interaction was entertaining and unlike wes and kermit.  now if randy could just keep the annoying commentary down and the pba could figure out how to use a freakn camera we would be getting somewhere...  anyone else get annoyed with the camera shots?? geese i would rather watch it through a helmat cam on the bowlers!  Congrats mike

Wes Mallot flushed the hole every ball.  And lost.

Haugan....nearly split, pulled one and fudged it, and had another he nearly topped to hold in pocket.

Regardless I was happy for him.....he's bowled great before and gotten beat so it was his time!

That was by far the best stuffed 10 pin I ever saw with the title on the line, He sure made that Rival Look impressive, although making spares with a Scout is also impressive.

Great show, Dave Ryan makes another check

Nevermind the times that some straighter guy threw the ball great and got out powered by Big Wes or TJ, who normally have more area due to their revs and rotation.  Nothing more than the classic cranker vs. stroker whining.  Yes, Wes threw it great but I'm sure he's had more than a few rounds where he just overpowered the pins and won against someone else who threw it better but couldn't carry.

I want to congrats to Michael.  I did not see the whole tournament as I was bowling myself.  I did however see Wes play a couple towards that ditch which looked like he lost them and they recovered.  Regardless to who hit the mark the greatest.  If Wes didn't carry and Michael did looks like AMF won all the way around.  Just happy to see someone else on top and a different look company other than Ebonite, Columbia, Storm or Track.

Way to go Michael Jr.!!  He bowled well enough to win and that's all that matters.  Great day for the NEW and improved AMF too!  I watched Michael bowl the Masters and he really looked good throwing the Heist, NP and solid version.  Glad to see him keep grinding and it paid off!

Hey...I think I have seen AMF win in the last two years.

Were they both with Maximum Velocities?

Jason Hurd and Rick Lawrence.

Good ball...

part of the game, sometimes they just don't fall when we think they should. It happens at all levels of the game.

Wes had like one more ball in good pocket than Michael.  But does it matter?  The person who knocks the pins down better bowled the better game, not the person who looked the best doing it.  The name of the game is to knock down pins.  It doesn't matter how they fall.

In the Masters, the high rev rate guy <Sean Rash> won with less than stellar shots.  Steve Jaros hit his line better but didn't carry.

Mike Haugen the down and inner lower rev rate wins this week.  Hmmmmm it's appropriate.

Bowling is not about style so who cares if Wes "bowled" better. The pin count says otherwise.

Classic example of a typical league night is what this sounds like !

The good bowler is crushing the rack and leaving pins and the "lesser" bowler is just carrying everything, no matter what kinda hit it is.

Final thought: Thank God theres no handicap in the PBA !

Interesting, the good bowler is leaving pins and the lesser bowler is just carrying, therefore the lesser better is the better bowler.

Phil thats why I put the " " around the word lesser.

Michael Haugen Jr is not a "lesser" bowler, but as far as his shots today.

Wes was the shot-maker and lost. Put every ball in the hole and lose.

Maybe the new Ebonite made Columbia balls hit just too hard.

...Maybe the AMF balls carry better..who knows

....but I know one thing, AMF will sell a few NHP's because of this show.

Congrats to Haugen on his first PBA title. Of the 3 tiltle matches he has been I believe his avg is about 250. I remeber when he matched PDW strike for strike only to be beaten 299 to 279(ringing 10). Things worked out for the stroker today, but Wes leaked a few that recovered due to his rev rate. Some of us house hacks thank god for the dry, I think Wes was feeling that too on a few shots.

It was 289 and it was one of the best matches you'll ever see.  PDW shot 299 against Steve Wilson a few weeks beforehand.  Two of my favorite shows.

The scoresheet says otherwise.  I don't care how crappy your form looks, I don't care how ugly your ball reaction is, I don't care how much luck you got, if you had a better score than the other guy, by definition you bowled better than him that game.  My buddy Matt carries a 165 average -- he threw a couple brooklyns, a few lucky strikes, made his spares, and shot 226 the other night when I ground my way out through bad ball reaction resulting in poor carry and an inconsistent breakpoint to a 199.  My release was much more consistent than his, but he beat me.  Therefore, he bowled a better game than me.

Incidentally, Haugen just posted on PBA.com.

He used two Heists and one Nighthawk Pearl on the telecast. Used Heist #1 the first game, then went to a shinier Heist in game two and alternated with the Nighthawk Pearl.

The ball he gave the kid was a blank, undrilled. It was not the Nighthawk Pearl he used in game #2. He later autographed it for the kid.

Jess
