Title: Kick
Post by: C-G ProShop-Carl on June 18, 2003, 08:32:38 AM
I have had my Kick for awhile and have not decided for sure how I want to lay it out. I was thinking negative (put the pin in my track area), but it only has a 1 inch pin. If I go the negative route it can cause me to have to use a weight hole that I may track over.

So I have been toying with the idea of putting the pin maybe 1 inch from PAP. What do you think about that? I know it will cause a weight hole to be drilled but atleast it will be in a location that I will not track over it.

May I ask a few basic questions first?

1 - what do you want the ball to do on what type of condition?
2 - what ball are you using on that condition now and how is it not working for you?
3 - why do you seem to want exotic drillings on what is a basically a medium-high RG, medium-low flare cored ball? (There could be perfectly vaild reasons; I'd like to try to understand them, if you are asking for suggestions.)

Sorry, guess I could have included those in the original post.

I want the ball for a desert. Currently I am using a Voo Doo as my Dry lane ball and it does ok, I have about 4 heavy coats of Control it on the ball. But it is still too strong to have it for that condition. I figured if I went negative, or even with the 1 inch from PAP with the Kick it may even allow me to square up more than the Voo Doo does. It does not have to be an exotic drill, but I want VERY LITTLE flare and hook out of the ball.

Thank you

MAJOR diff between VooDoo (one of my medium-heavy balls) and the Kick.
You should be able to use the Kick well on some fairly dry conditions, even without low flare drillings. It does have a high-ish Rg and is polished.
Heck, even with moe normal drillings and maybe some COntrol-It, it should work on many dry conditions.

- Since it is only a 1" pin, you could stack them somewhere in the middle of the span/grip for a 5"x5" or a 5.5"x5.5" with no weight hole.
- You could move the pin up as far it will go under the bridge to add some finger weight and a very slight increase in the RG.
- or you could barbell it, by putting the pin-CG line ont he line bewteen grip center and PAP, with the pin 1-2" from the PAP and the CG towards the grip center.
- or even do the "bullred" thing and put the pin on the PAP, with a weight hole just beyond the PAP. (I think it was bulled who uses this on his Barrage, a similar ball in theory to the Kick.)

If after trying any one of these or other drllings, a little Control-It can help as you well know.

(Whatever possesed you to try a VooDoo on dry? That is truly optimistic. Some ball surfaces cannot be made mild by any method or device.)

Good Luck. For people bold enough to use the Kick, I have heard of few failures for dry lanes, as long as the surface is polished enough to clear the heads.
