Mega Friction... anymore reviews??
« on: February 03, 2009, 02:12:16 AM »
I am thinking of picking one of these bad boys up and was wondering how everyone is liking this ball? Anyone changed the cover?

I know its pretty new, but there are zero reviews in the review section so I thought I would ask here..

I have thrown mine only during league practice and just not enough oil to use this ball at the moment. I have drilled this pin low with pin on grip line with the CG kicked to the track side. I did surface the ball to 4000 with step 3 storm compound with bean sauce over the top. During practice using my link drilled pin up with pin on grip line with mb in track standing 7 left of middle throwing 13-10 and hitting the pocket. Switching to the Mega I was 12 left of middle, throwing 18-5 and back to the pocket. The Mega rolled up about 2 foot earlier with a strong continuous arc motion. I did like the roll on the ball, just not enough oil around here in SA to use this for now. I will bring this ball with me to San Marcos and test it out here on Thursday.

correct me if I am wrong please, but I thought this ball was a "symmetrical" ball.. It shouldn't have a mb, unless you drew your own..  thankss

To slashrr69-  There is no mention in the prior post of the Mega Friction having a MB.  The post states about a "Link"  which does have a MB.  Just thought I'd point that out.  The Mega Friction is a symmetrical ball.

My friend is going to practice with this on the Shark Pattern on Saturday at box finish. We'll see how it works...

Mine will be here tomorrow, and seriously, anyone with any hand at all, and not
on oilier shots will be insane to use this ball. I am drilling it for heavy tournament and sport, and days when encounter bad carrydown. I would wait for the ball to be out for a few weeks befor you see some serious reviews. It always seems people jump the gun for information that is not out there yet, and also people asking for comparisons of balls not even released yet. I'm sure there will be reviews in 2-3 weeks. But in defense of all, I want to know how this would stack up against say a NVD, Virtual Shift, Hot Sauce, etc !

Thirty, I have thrown all of the balls except the hot sauce. The NVD is not even close to what the Virtual and Mega can do. The mega gives me a little more room for error then the virtual, carry is relatively equal. The virtual didn't shine up as much as the Mega though, if that makes sense. The mega friction shines up pretty quick at 1000, but thats to be expected of an dull oiler. You can't wrong with the Mega or Virtual, both are excellent balls. I give the nod in strength to the Mega, but it reacts very violent off friction, sometimes too violent. For example: On the same shot, if I let up (speed wise) on the virtual it still stays and finishes high flush. On the other side with the Mega, if I let up on it, its either brooklyn, or straight through the nose.

Thanks tizzle,
I had the Virtual and sold it, did not match up with my game. Have the NVD, and it handles any oil around here. I did not have problems with polishing the Virtual, so that was not an issue. The Mega will be in the bag, in case, when nothing else is cutting the mustard on heavier THS's and sports. In one house in our area, they have a history of the Pheonix not being maintained well and stripping is not done. The Mega will probably be used on this also. This sounds like a winner already. My Code has a unique motion and niche in my arsenal, and I love that core. Thanks for the info, I am sure more will come out on this ball as time goes on, so we can patiently await more reviews.

just a heads up on the Mega, I have only seen one ball that has hooked as much as the Mega, it was at 320 with a heavy particle load. I attempted to throw mine last night in practice it was not a good match even between 3rd-4th arrows. It creats a ton of friction in the mids and was left of the head pin at 45 feet, at box finish. The ball will eat up a heavy long pattern at box, for those who don't have a lot of hand it will make them think they have found the fountain of youth and have been reincarnated as Max-Bob revs, the label should have read find wider lanes not "caution this ball hooks". To be used on an every night basis I would think 4000 finish or maybe a dose of liquid teflon might be necessary to get it down lane. It will hook a bunch, plain and simple !!

I just drilled mine up today. This ball flat out HOOKS!!! I drilled this one pin under the ring and kicked the CG out. I left this ball out of the box and could not keep it on the lane on a THS. It probably hooks about 3-4 boards more for me than my Bounty. I am bowling on a tighter shot this weekend and I will update.

Will the Mega Friction be more aggressive than the epoxy balls?
