Clutch Pearl mini-review...
« on: March 11, 2010, 02:50:55 PM »
Got mine yesterday, drilled it and used it for the first time tonight. 15 pounds, 2.5-inch pin, 2.5-oz. top. Pin drilled through the middle, CG just slightly right of the ring and below it, MB at 5 o'clock to grip center about 1.5 inches away from the thumb. No weight hole, box finish. Works out to a 5x3 for me.

Used it on the fresh on Kegel Main Street with higher volume, and it didn't like it very much to begin with. Ball wouldn't finish no matter the line, but that changed about the 5th or 6th frame and I was able to stay with it well into the third game, when everything caught fire and guys had to shell down (I dropped all the way to a Dyno-Thane Cure Pearl, someone else had an Ebonite Apex Intensity, etc.).

Early indications are that it is stronger and more angular than the Heist Pearl, but not as strong as either a 900Global Break Pearl or Break Point Pearl. However, it is more predictable than either of those balls.

It is what it was built to be -- ball for mediums. Great hold on pulled shots but if you get it into the dry too fast you'll see that backend. Rolls a lot like my Dyno-Thane Threshold, just with a weaker shell. And that's not really a surprise given that if you put a picture of the Clutch Pearl core next to the Threshold core, they look very much alike (albeit with different RG/diff numbers).

Nice ball. Probably worked its way into my tournament arsenal and rooted out a Storm Attitude Shift with a 315 drilling and polish that I was planning to take. State tournament comes up in a month for me and this will probably be in my bag.

I agree Jess. My Heist Pearl is a perfect step down from my clutch Pearl. My Clutch Pearl reminds me a lot of the Cell Pearl I had at the beginnng of lasxt season

Trotted it out again tonight and started with 266 (half-ten in the 5th, 3-6-10 on the 11th shot). Lanes broke down about 6-7 frames ahead of schedule (hence the 3-6-10), and I started the next game strike, 3-4-6-10 (which I covered) and a pair of flat 10s thanks to the ball burning up. Put it up, switched the Heist Pearl, which is the ideal shell-down move from the Clutch Pearl.

I really like this ball. Really strong response to dry when you need that extra oomph.
